I have just spent a week at the Hotel SH Ifach 9 - 16 October 2012. Although the hotel is not that old it is a bit tired in places. I had to go to my friends room to put the shower on for her as she found it difficult to do. Think there is a knack. No kettles are provided in the rooms, so take your own if you like a cup tea. We had rooms overlooking the pool area so got the sun in the afternoon.
During the week it was quite quiet at the hotel but the weekend livened up considerable when the Spanish came to stay in their hotel. They had a 40's night one evening and was good fun.
There was entertainment most nights which was pleasant. One or two of the entertainers complained as they had been put in a back room with bad lighting instead of the usual Atrium area. With the weekend entertainment being in the Atrium area it was much better.
There is a lovely but small indoor pool in the hotel, but you will need a swim hat. One man I heard complaining about this and was not so complimentary to the hotel. Rules are rules. There is also a nice jacuzzi by the indoor pool. The outdoor pool is really nice with a little waterfall and its own jacuzzi was a bit cold though. The outside bar was closed.
There is a five minute walk to the beach and promenade and the sea is really nice to swim in.
I thought the food was quite good. There was show cooking at each meal, but as with any European holiday there is salad at every meal which does not change too much. We had some very nice fish cooked on the show cooking area, lamb and even steak one night. There were tea and coffee machines in the restaurant. There were not too many staff on duty but usually the tables were cleared quickly between courses and they were always very nice and friendly.
I have no complaints against any of the staff they were courteous, efficient and friendly.
I travelled with Saga so we, as usual, had our own entertainment room. There were four lifts, one of them was a bit temperamental but quite quick.
Did find the hotel public toilets very low to the ground so beware there is further to travel to sit on it than you expect!
Next year we plan to try another SH hotel in Altea.
I would return to this hotel if I did them more than once. We met several people there who have been coming to it for many years, I can understand why. The Saga rep, Suzanne, was lovely and really helpful.
Don't be put off by unfavourable bad reviews. It was a very nice hotel and a holiday is always what you make it.
Take a kettle and swim hat.
