“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Rooms a bit tired. Food was average and very disappointing for a vegetarian. We didn't pay a bad price out of season so okay if you are on a budget but would be disappointed if we had paid more. Staff helpful and friendly. Good location on the sea front.

We booked into the Roca Esmeralda hotel for a week, the room was very small and old looking, the room had quite a bit of damaged furnshings, bathroom had an very old suite and bide, it also had a hairdrier in, lots of wear and tear. The kicten was very very limited only had a micro and fridge we had to ask for a kettle. We went self catering and they had not provide washing up equipment (and wanted to charge us 60E's to clean the fridge!!). Lounge and dining area was small and beeding seemed to have bugs as daughter woke up each day with bites. Beds were also very hard and no-one was able to sleep. Pools were not clean. Some staff were helpfull. We will not be visiting this hotel again.

Work was being done whilst we were there. The workmen made a real mess (including the cardboard in lift) and didn't clean up after themselves. Workmen were also rude and got in the way.
Very noisy place - music from the entertainment is extremely loud and goes on till 12.30 every night. If you can't beat them, join them! In general, it helps if you speak good Spanish in this resort. If you don't speak Spanish or speak bad Spanish they won't show you any respect and can be quite surly. The positive thing about this hotel is its location: right by the beach.

Sure, not expensive, clean and very friendly. But also rundown, old, and an atmosphere of a bad movie from 1972. The average age of customers is 88, and most are british. But again, nothing wrong with that. The big problem is of course the buffets, what a pity to go all the way to a culinary heaven like spain and end up in the buffet restaurant of Roce Esmeralda.
Nope, this is one mistake we wont do again.

On arriving here we were greeted and told we had been given an upgrade. We thought great. The apartment we were supposed to be in was on the 4th floor in the main hotel, but we were told we were now in a better one in a new building across the road. Then it started to go wrong. The upgrade was on the 18th floor and the new building was not the only new building. After checking two other buildings, we found the right one. None were sign posted. As we have a three year old girl we found this to be a little tiring, I am also disabled. After getting in to our room we checked it out, very nice. Then we found there was no safe, kettle or hair dryer which were in the itinerary. Then there was no bedding. Also there were no plug sockets in the kitchen area to plug the toaster in, we had to re arrange the dining area for this. Minor problems you might say. When we left the room to go out we tried to use the lift, no lifts. They were having problems, we had to walk the 18 floors. This is when we noticed that the building was not finished. There were holes in the walls exposing plumbing & electrics. There were no fire extinguishers or fire exit signs. And what little there was, none of it was in english. We were told that the lifts would be working in an hour or so by the receptionist who now couldn't speak english. We also asked for bedding that only turned up 36 hours into our stay after 6 requests. We had to really emphasise the fact that we had a small child and that I am disabled to get them to do anything. Basically we weren't Spanish or German(not that I dislike them or anything), but we seemed to have been put where they thought we might not bother them. My sister in law tried to change money and was served last even though she was second in the queue. This is not a place I would take my family again. Being British is not a bad thing, but we felt we were put out of sight a little(not to mingle with the rest of the crowd). The only upgrade we had was 12 floors higher. The area itself is ok. There is a restaurant called Foxes that we strongly recommend.
