Having just returned from a four week long stay in Altea Hills and mainly eating in Calpe each evening I have to say that Amigos was the best restaurant we ate at during our stay. We actually ate here four times during the stay and we only ate at one other restaurant twice - this is a good basic indicator of what we thought of Amigos!
Ursina and Walter make a great team. Walter is an exceptional cook and Ursina is the perfect welcoming face of the restaurant.
We sat outside each time we visited - its located just off from one of the busier roads but still gives a good feeling of whats going on around in Calpe during the evening. Theres around six tables outside and more inside.
We tried the Menu of the day once - exceptional value indeed but our favourite meals were the fillet steaks! Ive eaten in a fair few good restaurants over the years and the steaks here - specifically the quality of the product, the way its cooked and the quality/taste of the sauces rate among the very best. The accompanying veg was fresh and brilliantly cooked too - not soggy or frozen in origin! My partner also loved the chilli spaghetti dish and our four year old daughter absolutely loved the homemade chicken goujons (as did I!)
Trying to remain balanced in my review Id say that the childrens menu is very limited (from memory there is just sausages and chips or goujons and chips) but then having said that, Im sure they would russle up a smaller portion of anything else on the menu for the little'uns.
We hope to return to Altea next year and Amigos is at the top of our 'to revisit' list. :-)
