“A real find.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

We traveled with a 5 year old and an 18month old - tricky at the best of times - and had come to Auckland after a month on the road. I can honestly say it was our favourite. The other reviews are correct - great location, good for the city - but the main selling point was the amazing customer service from Roz. She bent over backwards to ensure we had a comfortable stay, providing baby equipment, typed instructions to airport, and many other personal touches. Book in advance as it gets busy and no wonder. A real gem. Loved it.

Since there are only two motels and one or two B&B's east of Parnell in Auckland, this gem is one short block from Kohimarama Beach. Three very good restaurants, a pub, a pizza takeaway and a wine store are within a block. Mission Beach and St. Heliers Beach are two minutes by car or 10 minutes away where there are more cafes and restaurants.
The units are small, but well laid out and have a full kitchen. There are do it yourself laundry facilities on site for a small fee as well. We stayed in room 3 with a king bed for one night at $169nZ which we thought was a very good price. Units are quiet and secure.
Owners are very friendly and helpful. A lucky finf for us, but rooms do book up quickly so phone ahead.

First night (2) in New Zeland. Dead tired after the flight and it was kind of tricky to find the hotel. Location (when found) was great. Out of the city but easily accessible. Beach within a few feet. Bars and such nearby. Accommodation was really nice. As usual, internet was a bit weird but that is true everywhere in NZ. We would stay again.

Room Tip: Maybe get an upper floor room. Some noise transferred down from the upstairs. Not significant but it...

For location, this is a great place to stay. Beautiful beaches, resturants in walking distance, completely of the hustle and bustle of Auckland city, but a short and easy drive to the CBD. A very safe area to walk around in, so great for business or holiday.
Hosts were lovely - thanks for looking after me !!
Rooms were clean and comfortable, well appointed but with a nice homely bach feel too.

Room Tip: if you have a heavy suitcase ask for a downstairs room.

We stayed at this motel when visiting friends in Auckland. The accommodation consists of a double bedroom, lounge, basic kitchenette and a small bathroom with shower and toilet. There is access to a small balcony. Rooms are small. A short walk brings you to the beach and promenade at Kohimarama and to local cafes, restaurants and shops. From here there is public transport into Auckland city centre. A longer walk takes you to the lively resorts of Mission Bay and St. Heliers where there are lots of bars and places to eat. The owners were helpful with local information, printing off maps, etc. All in all the motel is good value for its location close to the beach and its proximity to Auckland city centre.

We arrived in New Zealand after a long flight from England feeling pretty jetlagged and jaded. Plus driving a hire car from Auckland airport through town to the motel....... But we soon revived in the calm and welcoming atmosphere of the Aarangi, where we felt immediately at home. This is a great motel for seeing Auckland: it's just the right distance from the centre, and is handy for Tamaki Drive with beaches and Kelly Tarlton's aquarium just minutes away. Restaurants really handy too. Owners are lovely people: made us feel at home. We returned there for our last night in NZ after touring the country. Would we stay there again? You bet!

I arrived at the motel on a day where the weather was not the best, I was determined to make my break a good one though. I was greeted by a very friendly Asian man at the desk who was extremely helpful. We chatted for over an hour swapping investment tips. My unit was located up stairs where I could see the sea and plenty of sun poured through the huge windows. Not only did the weather clear up the next morning, I actually made money when I stayed with the Aarangi. I'm definitely going back to stay again :)
