“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Stayed in September 2013 having previously stayed at the Level hotel on the same site when it was all part of the Sheraton chain. Had some positives namely the large room with excellent balcony and glorious view and the overall layout of the site is very good with the popular square and spacious pool area. Although I didn't play a round of golf our room overlooked one of the courses which looked in great shape. Booked early and the rate was very reasonable at around 90 Euros a night including breakfast. However also had quite a few negatives from our point of view. Worst was that if the air con was not on then there was a nasty smell coming up through the drains which was very unpleasant. The rooms did not have tea/coffee facilities (we had brought our own) but did have a fridge which was very useful. Only 1 bath towel each per day and no turn down service - OK but not great. Staff at reception were friendly but unfortunately very poor. Had to exchange both room keys 3 times and when its a 10 minute walk to the room from reception that can be frustrating! Also asked for a map of Benidorm at reception but didn't have one, asked for bus timetable and was given totally the wrong information. Had asked for early check in but not checked in until 345pm - 15 minutes before the guaranteed time. Breakfast had all the right items but didn't quite work with no meet & greet service, abundance of insects on the peaches in particular, cereal left out and hence stale. Fresh fried eggs and melon were fine though. Taxi cost between 10 and 15 Euros to Benidorm depending on day of week and time (Sunday's and late evenings more expensive). If you want a bus then timetable is dictated by Terra Mitica park nearby - when that is closed there are no buses to benidorm from the bus stop outside the hotel. You can get a bus into Benidorm at 1750 (one of only 2 in the day within walking distance) by leaving the hotel complex turning right and walk about 1 mile to the bus stop which states it is for the Number 1 bus - that will take you to the tram station where you can change for an onward destination if required. Cost is 1.5 Euros to Benidorm (which may be 2 buses but you just pay the first driver and then show your ticket to get on the second bus). Tram station is about 1 hour walk from hotel but worth it if you want a day trip on the tram/train to either Denia or Alicante - cost was about 13 Euros return and journey time about 80 minutes but you do get some great scenery along the way to both Alicante and Denia.
My lasting impression is that the hotel has gone downmarket and suffered cost cutting since leaving the Sheraton chain. Most striking example was when I asked for 2 towels at the pool and was told no - only one and when that is used you can have another one! Wouldn't mind but the towel wasn't big enough to cover the lounger - fetch your own I guess! Doubt we will return to this hotel in all honesty.

We stayed here for a wedding so not a hotel of our choosing. The wedding itself was done really well.
It certainly wouldn't be somewhere I would choose to go or stay.
Having said that it seemed quite popular with golfing groups.
Breakfast was fine (not great) but something for all tastes was available.
The restaurants were ok (not great).
Individually, the staff were friendly & good but general service just did not seem to work.
We were a mix of guests for the wedding and selected different levels of room Standard De Lux & Premium. To be honest there was very little to choose between the 3 levels of room I saw so I would suggest saving by just paying for the entry level room. It says on the website that the premium rooms have sea, golf or pool views but on closer questioning the 4* premium room only has golf course views.
No coffee making facilities in the rooms and room service coffee ordered does not always arrive.

Room Tip: Save and go for the entry level room. We had a Premium room and there really was hardly any differen...

Orlando, Las Vegas and Benidorm have tried to duplicate Venice. The Melia is the best version.
Originally built by Sheraton as a luxury golfing destination, it is now run by the Spanish Melia chain. If you were looking at Venice from the Danieli hotel, this is exactly the view that Sheraton sought to recreate in Spain.
When the budget Accor chain took over the luxury Sofitel chain, they lowered the prices in half. The same was the case when Melia took over this luxury resort from Sheraton.

They have recreated several villages, which surround the vast lagoon/water complex. There is no logic to where they have places stairs or elevators, making navigation difficult

Given the huge area, they had to set up more than 20 Wi-Fi transmitters, which tend to break down.
They have cut back on staff but the ones who remain are always on their toes, especially at the front desk.
It is the ideal place for an inexpensive but elegant Honeymoon.
Downside: they have subcontracted the parking to people who are unhelpful and rude.

Room Tip: Get a room as close as possible to the reception location that is well-lit. The average person told...

Stayed here for four nights. Found the facilities great, all the staff pleasant and helpful.
Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and both food and drink very reasonable.
Beautiful hotel and setting.
Only two down points stopping it getting five stars from me. firstly our room had two single beds and secondly reception was far too small for the hotels size....

booked a premium room here for short stay, but on arrival(very late) was given room which was below our expectations(a junior suite), large but basic, and noisy from children, we complained but were so tired opted to go to bed and sort thing out the next day.
Breakfast very good and staff excellent.
We met the front reservations manager, who offered us another room within the vicinity known as the Level, this was a very nice room and we were extremely impressed with the managers' helpfullness, and the quality of the room offered, I would book this type of room again.
The complex itself is very large and spread out, they take you to room by shuttle it's that big!, we noticed the next morning- very good quality materials used and an excellent range of facilities- good quality varied gym and sauna department, a range of swimming pools for children(very shallow), good selection of tennis courts- a nice touch was the beach area- with great views of the surrounding coastline-it will take a while for you to get used to the sprawling facilities , but after a day we found our bearings, and it is a very nice environment in which to stay-far away from the Benidorm crowd, but very near to Terramitica, and the aqua parks.

Room Tip: pay a little more for the better rooms they are worth it

We stayed in "The Level" for a short escape. Definetly time run toooooo fast in the amazing swimming pool taking a refreshment while enyoing for some real relax time feeling a VIP.
Very funny the evening drinks, and lovely quiet ambience for restaurants, like staying in a "Hello magazine rmansion by the sea" for a day.
