We chose this hotel after reading good reviews on Tripadvisor. It was booked as a package through Thomson. Booked as a last minute holiday it was also chance to recover from a recent operation.
We arrived by coach transfer from the airport and first impressions were positive. The revolving door at the front of the hotel was out of order but we discovered this was down to the windy weather that day however the doors either side were rather narrow and not easy to negotiate with suitcases and hand luggage. Hotel reception is a huge space, full of information and spotlessly clean. We were at the back of the queue to check in but the efficient reception staff soon had us checked in and we went to look for room 1104.
The hotel has four main lifts to service the 19 accommodation floors as well as the five other floors. We never had to wait long for a lift and they all worked for the entire duration of our stay. We soon found our room and entered using the usual card system.
The first impressions of the room were good. It was much bigger than we thought it would be. It was very light and airy with huge patio doors leading to a large balcony which overlooked the pool area. The bathroom was very big and included a shower cubicle and a bath with another shower. The shower over the bath was incredibly powerful but had a habit of flooding the floor. The bathroom also has a hair dryer and free shampoo, shower gel etc. There were two huge single beds in the room which were soon pushed together. They were great beds which were very comfy and warm. Wardrobe space is very good but we could of done with some more drawers as you only get a tiny one either side of the bed. A decent flat screen TV is provided with a fair choice of English speaking TV stations and plenty of radio stations. The cleaners paid us a visit every day and the bed clothes were changed twice during our weeks stay. The room was spotless throughout. The heating and air con both worked well as well.
Our arrival time at the hotel was mid morning so we were too late for breakfast so we went to the bar area next to reception for a couple of drinks before lunch. We were on an all inclusive package and your room key is all you need to order whatever (local) drinks you fancied. So much better than wearing a wristband! There is a huge choice of drinks at the bar from decent coffee, tea, soft drinks, beer and local spirits. You don't get branded spirits (unless you upgrade to premium all inclusive) but the local stuff is pretty good and you get plenty of it. The bar staff are great and all speak good English so ordering is never a problem. Remember to ask for plastic glasses if you want to take your drinks outside though.
Drinks dispatched it was now lunchtime. When you book an all inclusive holiday this is the bit you hope is good and we weren't to be disappointed. The dining room is huge and well laid out. We never had any trouble finding a table in the whole time we stayed. The drinks are set out in the middle of the room and you can help yourself to wine (red, rose and white) beer and soft drinks. The food is laid out buffet style and you really can eat as much as you like. The variety is huge! You can choose from soup, salads, pasta, chicken, beef, pork ,lamb, fish of all types, veggies, rice, potatoes, chips and loads of different sauces. There is also a chef on the grill cooking up all types of different meats. Then it was time for dessert. Again the choice is good. There were all types of sweet things from cakes, pastries and mousses. You can also choose from fresh fruit and ice cream. Things are obviously a little different at breakfast time but again everything you would expect is there. Try the red Spanish sausages and freshly made omelettes, they're great. We never got bored with the food as there is such a good variety which caters for all tastes. Top dining room tips - make sure you go to both ends of the dining room as the food is different during lunch and dinner at each end and remember if you have an early flight home it opens at 5.30am for toast, coffee etc.
The hotel entertainment was good. There are all types of activities to try during the day including shooting, bowls, pool and archery. Guests are encouraged to join in and it's a great way to meet your fellow holidaymakers. The pool area is big with plenty of sunbeds but the pool was too cold to get in during the winter, Like everywhere else the whole area was spotlessly clean. There is a bar and stage area by the pool but these were both closed during the winter months, Every evening entertainment is provided in the basement bar. There was a good variety of singers, dancers and a very funny comedian. The resident hotel entertainers also host quizzes and karaoke every evening.
The location of the hotel is also good. It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach but well worth the walk as it's a huge, well maintained blue flag beach. There is also a taxi rank right outside the hotel as well as a bus stop. A chemist and two supermarkets are within two minutes walk of the hotel should you need to buy anything, There is also a market on Sundays and Wednesdays about a five minute walk away.
Overall it's hard to find fault with this hotel. Throughout it is well maintained and clean. The staff are all friendly and polite and nothing is to much trouble. Perhaps a kettle and tea/coffee in the bedrooms would be nice and the loo roll could be a little softer but these are minor complaints.
We'll definitely be returning to this hotel for another week next winter.
Higher floors get the sun longer in the winter months. End rooms have bigger balconies.
