We have been to various hotels in Benidorm over the Christmas period and were looking forward to our first time in the Levante Club. Upon arrival, we noticed that the hotel was situated in the Rincon area of Benidorm with some bars opposite the hotel.
The hotel is very modern in appearance and well decorated, we were checked in efficiently by the reception staff who were polite and helpful. We were allocated a room on a low floor as requested and found it to be modern and well furnished, there was a plasma tv with Sky Sports and a large balcony with modern furniture and a clothes drier.
The bathroom was huge as it had a shower cubicle in addition to the shower over the bath. A bowl of complimentary toiletries were provided incase we forgot to pack something. After settling in, we went to the restaurant for lunch and found it to be spotlessly clean and comfortable to dine in. All table covers were changed after someone dined at the table.
The food was plentiful and tasted good, it was allways hot and appetising. The waitress in the restaurant was very pleasant and removed dirty plates from the table straight away.
As it was christmas day, Santa was visiting the hotel and made an appearance in the tropicana bar. It was a good laugh as everyone went up and received a present from santa. At night the gala meal was served in the function suite, the food was well presented and tasted good, we liked the soup, turkey and pudding. Our table was served by Jose who we found to be a cheerful fellow who we had a laugh with.
The entertainment in the evening was held in the downstairs bar and consisted of shows and the usual disco music, some nights were better than others. We found the entertainers to be friendly and they allways came over to talk to us.
On New years eve the gala meal was held in the function suite, however this time the food was not as good, the sorbet course was very icy and although the steak tasted very good some parts of it were pinky. Our table was served by Jose's wife from the restaurant and we found her to be cheerful and pleasant. After the dinner all the British people were placed in the tropicana bar to await the new year, there seemed to be no atmosphere in the room as nobody seemed to talk to one another. We ended up going downstairs to celebrate with the Spanish people and danced away till 3am.
The hotel opened the restaurant for us at 6am so we could get something to eat before we left, this was nice of them as some hotels give you nothing.
Now to explain about the second part of the title of my review. We found Jesus the bar manager to be a jolly fellow, allways smiling. David and the other barmen were polite and friendly with the exception of Carlos who we found to be very rude. On boxing night one of our party was deliberatly pushed in the back by Carlos and told to get out of the bar. This could have been nasty as the person was carrying drinks at the time and stumbled but could have fallen.
The following night our party was sitting in the downstairs lounge enjoying the show and at 11:50 pm went to the bar for our last drinks of the evening. However we did not get to drink them as at 12:15 Carlos walked over to our table and lifted all our drinks. When we told him they were not finished and to return them, he just laughed and walked out of the side door with them. The drinks were found hidden somewhere in the corridor and were not in a drinkable state. There were pleanty of people sitting on the other side of the room and Carlos did not go near them or touch their drinks.
We were unhappy at this and spoke to Jesus the bar manager regarding the matter who was concerned about it. We had paid a lot of money for the hotel and as paying guests were not expecting to be treated this way by a member of staff.
Apart from the issue we had no compaints and would return to the hotel.
