“Some good and bad points”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We have just returned from a short break at this hotel with a couple of friends. When we booked we asked for upper floor rooms. We were given two dreadful rooms on the ground floor (described as 2nd floor) with no balconies or view. The windows would not lock so solid electric shutters had to be lowered down to maintain security making them pitch black inside. We complained and were moved to the fifteenth floor the next day to two lovely rooms with balconies and views across the pool to the sea. I would hope that they only use these rooms as a last resort!

The hotel location is excellent, right in the middle of things but it is noisy. There is a club next door called The Hippodrome open from midnight until 8am. Revellers come out screaming and shouting all night so I would definately recommend ear plugs. It was loud even on the fifteenth floor. It is only a short walk to the beach.

The hotel is spotless and quite grand inside. The bars were good and staff friendly and helpful particularly the lady at the pool bar. Beer was 1 euro fifty per pint. We only stayed bed and breakfast so can only comment on that. There was a good choice and I had a really tasty cooked breakfast from the buffet every day. One thing that is worth mentioning is that the spanish guests who all seemed to be pensioners were almost insufferable at breakfast. They would take entire trays full of croissants, hard boiled eggs, cooked meats, bread rolls etc and openly place them into their bags to take out to make sandwiches. They were blatant about this but were never challenged by the staff. They would also push in front of you or try to push you out of the way as you queued for coffee etc which was really annoying. I swear that I did not see one of them smile during the entire holiday. A very different culture definately.

There is a safe in the room but you do have to pay for the key and a fridge with two small bottles of water provided on the first day. These are charged at 2 euros each when you book out if you have used them which I thought was a bit mean of the hotel.

We spent a lot of time by the pool and had no trouble getting sun beds.

I would stay again but would take ear plugs next time.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper room away from the Hippodrome Nightclub end of the hotel.

At marina from 5th to12th oct had a great week. Im a fussy eater and every night i managed to eat well. All staff were very pleasant especially the lady that worked the dining room clearing the tables and Angela the english worker. We reported a loose tile in the bathroom to our maid and it was fixed within the hour. I do agree with a previous review about having to wait a while for the lift at busy times especially when like us your on the 17th floor. The balcony has great views

I have been a regular visitor to Benidorm over the past 25 years, and a regular visitor to Lucky's Bar and The Secret Fountain over the last four years and have enjoyed my visits there until this September - I was most embarrassed when the bar manager shouted at junior member of staff in my presence and as a result my customer needs were not met. I also felt for the poor waitress who was attempting to serve me as the bar manager did nothing but humiliate the girl in front of the customer. So Ray, Bar Manager, I am unlikely to visit this bar again while you are working there. A most unfortunate choice of manager for an otherwise good bar.

We were staying in the hotel next door but our meals were booked into the Hotel Marina, the food was very good how anybody can complain about what is offered on the Carousels plus the chefs cooking fresh grilled products I just don't know. The pool are was very good also The Secret Fountain. Beds are plentiful yes some are damaged but you have to blame the clientele for that the way some people treat them, my guess is they sort these out at the end of every year. The hotel has a shop and hairdressers within as well , I had a manicure done there for 5 Euros highly recommended.
The location on the Calle Gerona makes it ideal for all the nightlife and bars

Arrived at hotel on the 29th sept, given our key when we went to room people still in but reception gave us another room straight away.Hotel really nice lots of spanish in hotel but found all very pleasant its their holiday aswell. Dont think i would like to be there in height of season as found pool area very small,i agree with a previous review about sunbeds many broken and you had to get them off a pile each day. Also the umbrellas are in concrete VERY HEAVY to move.Food was good always something to my taste to me meals at night were not till 7.30 shame if you have kids.Hotel in a good location for beach/bars/night life, can be noisy at night but once doors were shut no noise.Lifts a bit of a nightmare could wait a while we were on 12th floor good views though.Lovely walks along promenade into the old town.Never once saw the pool area washed down though also air con was very poor in our room and fridge not brill but hey i was there for a rest and thats what i got

Room Tip: pool view very nice

We arrived back from the Marina on Wednesday, 2nd October. Was great stay food was good. won't say fantastic, but the roast beef, yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were awesome. The Secret Fountain was good as well although we sdidn't go there all the time because we love the Old Town which we walked to about 5 nights out of our 10 night stay. Didn't like where guests were putting towels on sunbeds at 7-30 in the morning and majority leaving them till lunchtime, thats why we only stayed round the pool 3 days, went to beach rest of the time. We loved the 3rd floor which we requested. All in all fabulous stay. We have been pricing up this Hotel with Sunmaster Holidays again and the prices are reasonable. Great staff particularly Angela. The only downfall the Spanish guests are very rude people, but that's not the Hotels fault. Well done Marina. Oh and the lager 1 euro 50 cents.

Room Tip: Choose a lower floor, great.
