Just back from staying 8 nights in Hotel Delfin (initially only booked 4 nights as was not sure Benidorm and hotel was the type of holiday resort I'd like). However got it wrong. The hotel which is in the quieter area of Benidorm is beautiful (Cala) - situated next to beach. The hotel itself is old world spainish - beautifully kept - lovely garden and good size swimming pool. Bedrooms spotlessly clean with staff very friendly and helpful. We only stayed B&B - breakfast is good - continential - meats, cheeses, etc. There is limited hot food - so don't expect full irish breakfast. Do make sure you get a room with garden/sea view.
There is a safe for each room at €2 per day which is really good value in comparison to other hotels. The hotel feels safe, has security at night and at no stage was I concerned about pick pockets, theft. Now that's not to say not be careful.
There are a good number of restaurants beside hotel and some bars. However, do go into benidorm old town/new town. Taxi only 6/7 euro and will arrive in minutes once booked. The local bus runs beside hotel every 20 mins. The profile benidorm has gotten doesn't protrait the wonderful restaurants it has in old town, the lovely spainish bars, great shopping area, fabulous promenades and white sandy beaches.
The cost of a meal for two in restaurant (by Irish standards) is very reasonable. €1.25 for a glass of vino is really good!.
In the 'Levante' area of Benidorm - there is the bar strip - which is very busy at week-ends and has hen & stag parties. However, if this isn't your scene, there are nice bars on the 'Levante' promenade which has entertainment yet not the 'noise/crowd' level.
