“Stay away from this Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Was.looking forward to staying here with a friend for a week in June. As I'm slightly disabled I wrote to the hotel prior to our visit asking if it was possible for us to have a low floor room. BIG mistake, we were allocated a room on the 14th floor which as we found out was the highest floor in the hotel. Luckily there were lifts, which took an age to get.. Upon arrival we queued for just over an hour to have our wristbands fitted etc. However, once we got our room and got our cases unpacked we felt ready for our holiday adventure. This hotel is huge and shares everything apart from food with its twin sister The Ocas. Due to the series Benidorm being shot at that time a lot of the pool was cut off, which was understandable, all the sunbeds were tightly jammed together making them impossible for someone like me to use and Why !!!! Were they still like that over the weekend when there was no filming going on. Now to the food, A lot of it was unedible , we had paid for A/I but had to eat out or risked being poisoned as a lot of it was either undercooked or overcooked. I complained one evening about my raw chicken. Only to be told Oh!!! that!'s bad! So all in all we had paid for A/I and could only eat cereals and toast at breakfast.(they could'nt spoil them. ) There was also a very big smell of sewerage which prevailed the outside seating area . I would never ever return to this hotel for a holiday if they were to offer me it for free. This hotel is riding on the back of the Benidorm Series & getting it wrong.

Arrived at this hotel after 2 hours transfer.. first impression was quite good... then as we entered the hotel we was greeted by a miserable security guard who told us we need to check in but there was a 1hr wait as they were 'training' staff... the reception had no clue on professionalism and spoke little english ... we had requested a lower floor as one of us was visually impaired and had walking difficulties after bekng handed our key we discovered we was on floor 12 not exactly low... but the only englih speaking receptionist a 60yr old guy told us it was lower than floor 14... we would be able to change to a lower floor in the ocas but there wud b no balcony and no air con... hmmm we stayed on the 12th floor but I wasnt happy the lifts were always breaking down and dirty sanity towels were found on several occasions... the pool areas were nice but there was people from other hotels saving sunbeds and bringing there own alcohol the pool guard was unapproachable and was forever moving the sunbeds creating pathways for jis own purposes... I also reported him as he seemed to have a grudge against english not letting people take photos and videos.. and pushing children into the pool fora 'joke' parents didnt find it funny though...another downfall of the poolarea is there are peoplpeoplabusing the all inclusive bands and offering the usage of the bands for unlimited drinks for the price of 20e a day...and pocketing the money... inflatables are sopposedly not allowed in the pool in the pelicanos but if you wait for the water gym to start they woll not stop u from bringing them into the pool... food is repeated every day u c an usually find something to eat just make sure its cooked as there were many cases of stomach bugs... Ialso want to mention the hotel operates a security guard safeguarding the hotel at night but I often notticed 'working girls' sat in reception most evenings 'on business' thid was reported to reception but seemed to b ignored... apart from phonecalls to our rooms late at night incidents with silly children shining laser pens into our rooms and items from our balconys going missing I would definatley recomment this hotel maybe to the unemployed that are grateful to stay in slums or single parents that maybe are looking for a job PRing outside the hotel for blues brothers for an extra 10e a night and a nights free stay then look no further....

Room Tip: Choose a high floor they might give u a low floor or give receptionist a back hander 50e

Dear FayeEdwards1983, thank you for having chosen Sol Pelicanos Ocas to spend your holidays in Benidorm and also for sharing here your personal experience among us. Nowadays, this popular website is a very useful tool not only for other travellers but also for us, as we can detect the areas where we have to focus our efforts to improve our services. We deeply regret not having achieved your expectations but we would like to clear some aspects from your opinion which can create confusion for other travellers…In reference to our hotel security, we inform you that we have a daytime security man checking that no people from outside the hotel access to our facilities, above all to our swimming pool, and also is watching over arrivals/departures at our receptions areas. Then, at night there is another security man checking that people have a properly behaviour inside hotel, corridors and rooms, and avoiding non resident people access, assuring at all times our customers’ security during their stays here. On the other hand, our lifeguards make a hard work every day to ensure that our swimming pool rules are carried out, contributing to improve our customers’ comfort and security in our swimming pool areas but never with the intention of annoying them. Regarding to our reception staff, all of them speak and understand English correctly as near of a 80% of our guests are British, and we are constantly training their languages skills. It is true we have currently some training people but they are always accompanied by a receptionist. Of course, we have passed your comments to our Head of Reception in order to improve our service as the satisfaction of our guests is always our main commitment. Finally, we also take note of your words dedicated to our food service as you consider it was not varied but we guarantee you we have had NO reports of stomach virus at the hotel and we have strict quality and hygiene controls in our kitchens and cooking procedures, assuring always our customers healthy and of course, trying to delight all tastes. It is a shame your experience here has not been like expected because all the team at the hotel try always to make our guests enjoy their holidays but of course, we never stop introducing improvements. Yours sincerely, Mar Sierra, E-Guest Experience Manager

We stayed for 2weeks in the ocas just back today, the standard of the rooms and cleaniness was excellent. Food wasnt to bad lots of choice but to much sea food stuff not enough variety for our 7yr old daughter so we had to eat out alot. Entertainment was excellent for young kids but only downfall with that they mostly spoke/sang in spanish which after 1st night our daughter didnt want to do kids club after that.. even though the few issues we all still had brillant time in hotel and benidorm. Reception staff was very friendly an helpful, bar men/woman were great. All staff were. Weather was fantastic..

Having just settled my complaint with Thompsons and basically fobbed off,I thought I'd would report our holiday from hell! Like many here check in is very slow! We were dropped off at the sol and qued for what seemed an eternity, having been delayed from East Midlands. When we got to the front of the Que we were told that actually we were in the Ocas sister hotel and we have to exit the hotel to the sister hotel round the corner? The Thompson Rep had warned us and pointed out pick pockets and con men outside the hotel, we now had to walk past these people! Checked into the Ocas and was told the restaurant was closed, having paid half board. 24 hour take away around the corner we were told! In room 102, note all the lower floor rooms look onti a wall! The patio door would not lock so spent another hour with the engineer trying to fix. He gave up and we were moved across to room 104. Oh also these rooms are in the corridor that has a public toilet so very noisey at night! The shower had no thermostat and would go from cool to scalding in an instant! This was a family room so Children beware! Lots of stag groups here too on the all inclusive! The pool bar was closed as benidorm filming was taking place. Thompson forget to warn us that some amenities would not be available! The food was good and the service! We were told for the whole week that the hotel was fully booked and we couldn't get moved, odd then that I could still book a room on the Internet! All holiday reps only visit the sol hotel and not the Ocas and also you are picked up from the sol and not from the Ocas, be warned we almost missed the bus as the rep hadn't told us! I was happy to be heading home from this hotel and thompsons. The old town is a lovely place but this hotel and the new town is awful, unless you like loud, loud people! Oh and I'll never travel with thompsons again! Also note thompsons say high season is July and August only, so those paying high season premiums outside these dates are being overcharged!

Little surprised by some of the reviews on here I had a lovely holiday at the sol pelicanos with my three friends staff were nice food was good, saw some filming of benidorm whilst laying by the pool, only thing that would put me off from returning is the English rabble that were there! Disgraceful should be ashamed, why go on holiday and behave like animals and that was the women! It's a lovely hotel
