“Hotel Ocas - Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2008

I booked this hotel for a family holiday with my Husband, Father, Daughter, baby Grand-daughter, Son-in-law and his Father. We were getting a bit apprehensive after reading recent reviews but we were very pleased wit the hotel. We booked with Flyglobespan for the first week in June and when we arrived at the Pelicanos we were told that all Flyglobespan customers go to the Ocas. (Flyglobespan should really tell their customers when they book - it would save time.) There is only 1 receptionist on at a time and booking-in is a lengthy process. I had E'mailed the hotel in advance to request 4 rooms on the same floor but they were all on different floors. The food in this hotel is excellent. At breakfast there is always a chef making fresh pancakes and another making omlettes and fried eggs, along with the usual hotplates with bacon, beans, scrambled egg, tomatoes, fried bread and good british sausages. There is a large selection of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, bread, rolls. cold meats, cheese, fruit juice, hot and cold drinks etc. etc. At the evening meal there is always a chef carving a lovely joint of meat, along with a great selection of other hot meats, cold meats, fish, vegetables, salads, soups and sweets - could not fault any of it! The hotel lounge was very comfortable, the drinks were usual hotel prices and entertainment usual hotel standard. The rooms and public areas were very clean. The location of the hotel is excellent with loads of entertainment surrounding it. The pool areas are also excellent. We all had a great holiday and would definately recommend it.

we have just came back my self my husband and my 5 year old daughter we flew from newcastle on the 27th of may,we requested the pelicanos only to find we were in the ocas we were a bit dissapointed and were told by the rep she could move us but we decided to stay put as it was a quieter hotel. the food was good with plenty of choice very good standards of cleanliness. the pools are the best we have ever seen fantastic for the kids if one was busy you could use one of the other ones. there was a few good shows in the ocas 2 of them being snake of fire and the parrot show. the rest of the entertainement in the ocas could have been better drinks a bit on the expensive side ok if you go to the happy hour as it was bogof. all in all glad we stayed at the ocas.

Just arrived back from staying for one week in the Sol Pelicanos Hotel in Benidorm. We were a family of 3 staying half board. When we got off the coach at 11am we were told which hotel we would be staying in. In our case we were allocated the Sol Pelicanos. Check in was quite quick and we were placed on the 14th floor, which is the top floor. Most would be put off by this, but we found it was very quiet up there and the 5 lifts in the hotel were always working and we never had to climb the stairs. Our room was cleaned daily, and linen and towel changed too. Pool area was fantastic, when it gets busy you are not allowed to leave your towel on beds whilst you go shopping, as it will be removed by staff.

The children's "Flintstones Mini Club" is not run by the tour operator, it is ran by the hotel. Every morning the kids reps stand by the entrance to the dining room trying to entice the children to attend. The mini club runs from 11am until 1pm and then again from 3pm until 5pm. They children do a number of activities, i.e. treasure hunts, kite painting, etc. The cost of the mini club is €10 per day. It is pricely but the children love it, and are well looked after and safe. There is also a park within the grounds of the hotel for the children.

You can hire a safe for 1 week for €10 and €5 deposit.

The dining area is very clean, however you do need to get in there early as it gets very busy, and some days people were queuing to get a table. Meal times are from 8.00am until 10.30am and 6.00pm until 9.30pm. There is plenty to chose from - breakfast was the usual bacon, eggs, beans etc, but you could also have fresh fruit, croissants, cereals, toast and also some cakes. Tea/Coffee and juice was also provided. For dinner, it was usually soups, veg, potatoes, variety of meats, variety of fish, variety of pasta, salads, variety of deserts inc. cakes, fresh fruit, jelly and ice cream. Drinks are not included and they have to purchased in the dining room.

We found the evening entertainment to be quite good. Each night at 10.15pm there would be a show, ranging from puppets to parrot shows. Drinks in the hotel are quite pricey, but it was "Happy Hour - buy one get one free" from 5pm until 6pm.

Even if you are allocated the Ocas you can use all the facilities of the Pelicanos, and vice versa, apart from the dining room. We actually had a look around the Ocas and it is exactly the same as the Pelicanos, only a bit smaller. Apparently the menu in the Ocas is the same as Pelicanos, only the dining room is a lot quieter.

The location of the hotels couldn't be any better. You are literally 5 minutes walk away from the beach, the shops and the bars.

We would recommend Panchos Bar, for the kids party from 9pm until 11pm. Lots of games for the children. The other bars have a lot of entertainment going on, but some of the comedians are very blue, and don't care if there are children there or not.

Be careful of the man walking around the the monkey. He will take your picture with it, and ask for your room number and hotel. He says he will deliver the photo the next day, but never does after taking your money.

We didn't see any pickpockets, but you have got to be very cautious there. Don't carry any wallets in pockets and the pickpockets can see the outline and you will become a target. Don't take any credit cards or passports out with you, leave them in the safe at the Hotel. Just take out what you need.

Hope my review helps - enjoy your stay at the Pelicanos - we want to go back again!

Myself, my husband and my two small children (1 and 3) stayed at the Pelicanos May 2008. Checked in fine, hotel looked very clean and spacious in lobby. Had a problem when I checked in as the request for a cot had been ignored but was immediately rectified. When we got up to the room as soon as we opened the door was hit was a pungent smell from the bathroom, which remained throughout the stay. Rooms were not cleaned every day and when we informed reception they told us to just put our complaint in writing, which we did, as did at least four other people I spoke to. Clean towels were not left when dirty ones were taken, basically I think the hotel is understaffed. Meal times were o.k. Restaurant is spotless and there was a good selection of food. Although there wasn't a lot for the children to eat. Entertainment was a big let down. It was all catered for the spanish guests and sometimes they didn't even bother to translate to english. Staff in restaurant and on reception were very rude to English guests and I witnessed this twice with other people also, even to basic requests. One lady asked how to say good morning in Spanish and was told "don't know" and they just turned their back on her. How rude. Someone was checking in for their honeymoon and was given a room which hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests, their dirty linen was still on the floor. They were told to stay in the room for the night and they would be relocated in the morning which they refused to do, after much deliberation they were allocated another room. What a start to your honeymoon. Overall the hotel is great in some respects, the pool area is fabulous, but it is not wheelchair or pushchair friendly and not catered to for brits or children. They are definitely understaffed and whilst it may be difficult for them, we are paying good money for their services.

Having been to Benidorm on several occasions I knew what to expect from the resort. It's not pretty but the entertainment is fab.

Booked and specifically requested the Pelicanos, only to be told that we were in the Ocas (not a good start!), however after much discussion they agreed to locate us in the Pelicanos.

The hotel itself is spotless and rooms are a decent size. 2 adults and a cot fitted comfortably in the room.

Please be aware if you are taking a buggy or you have a disability. The access to the amazing pool area (one of the best I have seen at any hotel) is via a number of steps. There is no other way to get to the pool.

The drinks are also quite pricey 1 euro 80 for a small plastic cup of coke (go next door an buy a can for half the price).

There are no tea and coffe facilities in the room which is a shame as its quite hard to make a babies bottle without them, luckily we took a travel kettle with us. There is also no fridge so we needed to buy fresh milk every day for her bottle.

Would definately go back and stay at this hotel again.

  • Liked — The amazine pool
  • Disliked — too many steps. Pool not easily accessible with a buggy unless you had assistance
