“A luxurious hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2006

I am staying at the Melia Benidorm and am enjoying it. It is a very luxurious high rise twin building with marble floors, large rooms, good air conditioning, nice large bathrooms with good showers, nice ambience, large lawns with shady palm trees, a large outside pool and indoor pool with a gym, two restaurants, etc. Very luxurious. If you want to spend your time in pleasant pool side surroundings with good weather this is a good place to go. I have found the staff to be very helpful. I am not eating my meals at the hotel as it is less expensive to eat elsewhere. Every room faces the sea with a balcony, although it should be noted that the hotel is quite some distance from the sea and there are several other high rises blocking about 90% of the sea view. You will not be at the beach and then just nicking back to the hotel to grab a forgotten novel, it will be quite a trek. The hotel is at the far end of a very good sandy beach, near where all of the low budget Brits have their accommodation.

The question is not whether this hotel is good but whether you would want to come to Benidorm itself for your holiday. It is definitely geared towards the very very low budget British traveller with lots of cheap tacky clothing/novelty shops and English breakasts and English pubs advertised everywhere. If you are looking for a more upmarket destination with good restaurants and quality shops you should look elsewhere. There are a considerable number of elderly Spanish tourists here enjoying the sun and the sing alongs and dancing patios, so if you are elderly you might enjoy it, if you are between 20-45 and used to more upscale places you might like to think about going somewhere else.

Just returned from a four-day break in the Melia Benidorm, booked after reading reviews from previous visitors on trip advisor. (18-22.05), the reviews I saw were very complimentary so as my husband and me were going alone, we thought it would be a good idea for a couple.

All in all we were very pleased with the hotel, the rooms were lovely, but like a further review our first room the air con did not work because the patio door did not shut. As we had read this we took our case back down to reception and asked for an alternative room. I wasnt very happy when the receptionist told me that this room would probably be the same! Luckily it wasnt and we were happy with the size cleanliness and quietness of the room.

The worst part we found was the food, both the quality and the choice which I had read was previously very good, there was something to eat but not to the quality or choice we had received at the Flamingo Oasis next door (stayed last October)

It is saying that a different class to that hotel in other ways, eg peaceful surroundings, even though there were a number of chlidren in the hotel the pool area was quiet with no screaming kids or boistrous groups drinking themselves silly. The pool area was in need of a clean on a more regular basis as the childrens pool was full of leaves and litter and it was not cleaned until our last day, which was done because a vistor asked a member of management.

We both would go back again but would go bed and breakfast.

Having walked round this place saying i would love to stay i decided to drop in over easter I WAS NOT DISSAPOINTED having read the comments i had to see for myself purely selfish of-course room was beautiful pool and gardens beautiful and spotless indoor pool was as mentioned tepid as was jaquzzi
Food was of higher quality than most but more limited reason being i imagine that there were only about 200 or so staying at the time when really it can cater for 1000 plus but overall when the cold buffet section includes copious amounts of cracked lobster claws ----WELL ???? although the restaurant did lack atmosphere
service was efficient and friendly I had no problems here
I think what the overall problem is that the hotel is trying to ater for bussines, weddings, confrenes, etc at the same time catering for the sun lounger tourist this is not an easy task with one customer at the reception in a 3 piece suite and a 8 year old dripping wet kicking a beach ball throgh the lobby it is a lovely place more suited to adults
Dont expect pancho the clown but it is quiet ,perhaps a little backround music throughout would lift the atmosphere
Overall for the price and the quality its a defininte must
I will return

we also had to change room because of brits returning home at 4 in the morning walking around with high heel shooes, the concrete floors with tiles make the noise very irritating. There is no airconditioning at this time of the year, and we therefor had to sleep with the balcony door open, and this hotel is situated close to heavy traffic, almost 24 hours.
Beautiful swimmingpool area, also inside heated swimmingpool with lots og kids in it.
The restaurant wasd not much to write home about; the winelist was very poor, and prices double of the same chainhotel Los Pelicanos Ocas down the road. Also the food was not very interesting and not as good as Los Pelicanos Ocas. Also, the cooks fry fish about 1 yard away from the nearest tables, leaving a smell which did not suit most of the guests. Choose a table away from this area.
I was surprised to see a 4-star hotel which such dirty chairs in the diningroom, stains all over, first evening I started to look for any clean chairs, but most of them are stained and do not look very inviting.
The waiters are there to take away used dishes, and serve drinks, but I guess they have no education for serving; red-wine stored in fridge, icecold when served, and when ordering both wine and water, they only give you one glass. This hotel also lack cosiness, rooms are good, but the bathtubs are not very cleaned.
Sunday morning a cew of at least 100 people waited to be seated, if you arrive around 10 am.
I found all the people who worked in the hotel very polite and helpful.
The hotel has 23 floors and all rooms face the levante beach area, which is a 15 min walk away.

Benidorm is a wonderful resort its just the few who spoil it for the decent holiday makers
