“Spotless Clean but has its faults”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

Good Points: Reception very good, Restaurant manager very friendly. Hotel spotless everywhere. Childrens entertainment "entertained" food is served all day if you are AI, no food can be taken out of the restaurant so if you fancy a burger mid afternoon by pool its a no no.

Poor points: Beds Rock hard "you would get more sleep on a park bench" Adult entertainment dreadfull the same everynight and they could not sing, Limited staff on duty, the lifeguard also looks after the pool shop. Very strict around pool area no balls rings etc (Pool very very cold)

Although I enjoyed the location and views the hotel provided, it was somewhat tainted by the fact I was stolen from! Personal items including bank cards were taken from inside the locked hotel room. (suspect- maid) The Reception and Manager did not bat an eyelid= customer service zero.
Dispite this, the food was good and the chef-Ali was friendly.
P.S. You have to continuously dodge slow Spanish OAPs
P.P.S. I would not reccommend to a friend as there are plenty more hotels to choose from in the immediate area.

We visited the Lido in the 1st week in May and booked all our own travel via jet2 and shuttle direct. The jet2 flights were on time (as always) and the shuttle direct i can highly recommend also, with the pound being so weak against the euro a taxi from alicante sets you back around £60 so booking the shuttle bus was a bargin at £8-9 pounds per person each way. Because the lido is up a hill with no place for the bus to turn around you are dropped at the bottom of the hill by the burger king, so if your not 100% sure where the hotel is once your dropped off walk to the sea front..literally 20 steps..turn left and follow the road up the hill..easy..the hill however is quite steep, not suiatbel for anyone with walking/health issues..but well worth the 5 minute walk if your fit as the view from the rooms is spectacular!.

I have stayed at the hotel before 14 years ago and since then they have incorperated the balcony into the rooms which is kinda a shame as its such a great view..however, you can lay in bed with the floor to ceiling windows and see out across the bay and nobody can see in..so perfect to relax, read or get ready admiring the view.(the top windows open too so you can stick your head out and let plenty of sea air in..lovely to hear the sea at night i think.)

The reception and restaurant staff were top class, as mentioned below the chef is so lovely offering to cook anything you wish but the food was realy nice so wasnt a problem to us. The receptionists were always smiling and helpfull especially margaret who is english so made you feel you could ask anything a real bonus i find.

We had a disco/blinking light in the bathroom and reported it and it was fixed upon our return. The maids dont come in unannounced and the rooms are pretty clean (if u dont look too closely) and bareable. Could do with more thourough clean once a month maybe, get into all the corners etc was a tiny bit grubby on closer inspection but nothing major.

We went on full baord basis booking through travel republic. I highly recommend this option if your dirty stop outs like us as you can miss breakfast (8-10) after a night of partying and still get up in time for lunch (1-3)..dinners at 8-10 and we never had a problem finding somethign we liked though breakfast is a bit on the limited side if you dont like the continental stuff.

Bring your own hairdryer, iron, and kettle as no tea/coffee things in the room.

Overall the holiday was great, the acts in the bars are free and very good must see chrissy rock, tony scott and albi senior all great comediens.

We had terrible weather and it hail stoned! but because the room and the bars and the resort has so much to do the weather didnt bother us so much but be warned if u go in early may its very changeable and cold at night. So take a spare jumper/cardie and your brolly/closed in shoes.

Would i recommend the hotel? yes in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work Lido we will be back one day and loved benidorm !

My partner and I took our two young children (aged 2 &5) to Hotel Lido in Aug '09. We booked 2 days before we left, paying £290 each full board (including flights). To summarise, we had a brilliant holiday, and considering what we paid for the busiest week of the summer holidays we are chuffed!

Hotel Lido is fairly small and is a Spanish hotel (there were only 2 English families there). The transfer bus/taxi will drop you at the bottom of a hill and it's then a 2 minute walk to the hotel. It is a steep hill (not suitable for those with walking difficulties) but we managed it with 4 cases, 2 children and a buggy!

The hotel is fully air conditioned 24/7 and is spotlessly clean. We had a quad room with 4 single beds and an AMAZING sea view. There are no balconies. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels, linen is changed once a week. The whole inside of the hotel is non-smoking.

There is a lovely restaurant, again with excellent sea views but the food is Spanish. If you go abroad and want pie and chips - Hotel Lido is not for you. However, if you love variety, freshly cooked, healthy food then you'll love it! All meals are self service buffet, everything was always hot and we never had to queue. Breakfast comprises toast, cereal, sausages, eggs, yoghurt, fresh fruit, pastries, breads, jams, meats and cheeses etc. A typical lunch/dinner would be paella, fish, chicken, a potato dish, veg, salads, breads, cold meats, pate, cheeses, soup, absolutely wonderful cakes, again more fresh fruit than you could imagine, jelly and icecream. The waiters are very nice, although few speak english. The chef, knowing we were English frequently came over to check we were enjoying the food and was always offering to cook our children whatever they fancied. Restaurnat opening times were 8am - 10am for breakfast, 1pm - 3pm for lunch and 8pm - 10pm for dinner.

The bar, again has fantastic views and a large outside area. It is open all day until midnight. There is entertainment in the evenings (although all in Spanish) e.g. magic show, caberet and karaoke. We sat in the bar quite a few times and it didn't really matter that we couldn't understand what they were saying - the kids still had a great time dancing and playing with their new friends.

The pool is clean with a slide and seperate kiddies section. There are free sunbeds and parasols and considering it was supposed to be the busiest week of the year, was nearly always empty. That's the one thing we noticed about the Spanish - they get up late, have a late lunch, they sleep some more after lunch and don't surface again til about 9pm. This was great for us and it felt like we had to the whole place to ourselves most of the time!

One negative point about the hotel was the 'private beach'. It was not private, or a beach, rather a dirty pile of stones, but it was only a minutes walk to the main, lovely sandy beach so it didn't really matter.

A bit about Benidorm... not at all what I expected - hardly any English, instead mainly Spanish families which was great. Check out Aqualandia - it's amazing, but book tickets via the net before you go to save yourself money (cost us £50 for the four of us to get in). There are loads of English cafes near to the hotel if you do fancy a proper cuppa / fry up. There are great bars near the hotel called 'Vincents' - they are English run and do fab entertainment for kids and adults. The 'boat tip boat' stops right on the hotel's private beach and the prices are reasonable. When you come out of the hotel's front door, turn right and about 5 mins down the road is a secluded bay, not very busy at all and the sea is beautiful. Please note however you have to walk down a steep hillside to get to it and it is full of naked Spanish people! Buy your water at the supermarket which is a minutes walk from the hotel as it's loads cheaper than the water in the hotel bar. Don't be afraid to use the local buses, they are cheap, air conditioned and very frequent.

Overall, a great, cheap holiday - plenty of sun, good food and loads of fun things to do!

Our group of 4 were the only english people in hotel as it had been taken over by spanish senior citizens. The staff were very friendly the rooms cleaned and beds made daily and were spotless. The food was plain but good variety breafast was bacon and eggs every day sometimes tomatoes or sausages also a good variety of cereals, bread and fruit. We had to walk up a fairly steep hill to get to hotel with our luggage. We had a sea view room (no balcony) the view from our room was lovely especially at night .
