“Nice vacation at Alicante”

Hotel Sidi San Juan

Jul 19, 2008

Hotel proved to be excellent. It exceeded our expectation. Rooms are clean. All hotel rooms have good sea views. There were 2 swimming pools, one of which is indoor and hotel brochure stated that it is heated in winter. There is also an infants pool in the garden. However, note that you are requested to wear trousers during dinner (no shorts allowed). If you buy a half board package, you can choose between open buffet lunch or set menu dinner. We took the half board option when we booked our holiday. Breakfast is quite rich with several varaieties. Dinner was really good...it was a 5 course dinner with dishes similar to the ones you see on Gordon Ramsey TV shows :) We never tried the open buffet lunch,so I cannot give feedback about it. However, I expect it to be excellent, as were breakfast and dinner. Hotel does not have Intl tourists. Almost just quite rich spanish families.
We also booked a car during the whole vacation. It was very practical especially that we had a 18 months old daughter. We parked the car at the hotel garage. This costed around 10 Euros per day.
We recommend you get with you a travel sea umbrella to save the daily 3 Euros beach umberella rental fee (you pay this to the council rather than to hotel).
We highly recommend you make sure to visit a castle called 'el castle de Guadalest'. It is on top of a mountain. You will be driving for 30 mins on the A7 motorway, followed by another 30 mins climbing a mountain. On the top of the mountain you will be amazed to find a small village with very nive bazars and restaurants/cafes. Views from the mountain are spectacular. The castle itself is very basic however. But all in all it is a must see.

Lovely , some what posh atmosphere when we arrived at the San Juan helpful and polite smiling staff , rooms were beaming clean and the views brilliant , the different themes on each floor were very creative and effective and the room service super fast , ok the downward stroke - Parking in the hotel's own garage kept the car cool before you went out for the day comes at a cost @ 10 Euros a night this is what will put potential tourists not staying at the hotel ( we parked up the road 2 min walk and saved the parking costs ) also no help with dragging your cases up the stairs to the reception (I thought 5 star you would get a porter) . Watch out for the Beach Towel Hire Twist you get a card when you check in allowing you to hire two towels for the pool or the beach and you exchange the card for the towels BUT remember even if you dont use this facility you must give the plastic card back when you check out or you will be charged 15 Euros for the privilage of not handing the card back !!!!! , No such thing as a free lunch but alas no free continental breakfast if you are expecting it (Holiday Inn Ringing a Bell, Free parking + Free continental Breakfast !!!!!) The Beach in front of the hotel , Brill but alas you must pay if you want comfort on a lounger and you must pay if you dont want the Costa Sun frying you in the form of a shade ( umbrella ), The Colourful Hotel next door is a complete eyesore and lowers the tone of the San Juan ,this should be pulled down and make lovely Tennis Courts as an extra for the Hotel . This is an extremely nice hotel, with pleasant and helpful staff. I stayed for a week and found very little to grumble about - and I am picky!

The rooms are lovely all with sea views and small balconies. All were clean and well organised with complimentary dressing gowns and slippers. 24 hour room service and breakfast in your room if required until midday is a rare thing these days.

The hotel is ideal for families with younger children or older travellers - although the steps to the beach may make this difficult although a 'stenna' type chair lift can be used with a key from reception. If you like beach walking it is fab - miles and miles of walking up to your ankles in warm water. I dont know how far you can actually go - after a mile or so I always had the thought of the return at the back of my mind!

The hotel concierge were excellent at booking everthing I required and nothing seemed too much trouble - they were also very good at recommending places to eat.

On the down side the outside swimming pool is not big and the surrounding poolside sundeck area is too tightly packed for my enjoyment - but then with acres of landscaped gardens and a huge easily accessible indoor pool to use (walk in and out from the garden through french doors) - why worry. Breakfast - gorgeous and as much as you like - but if you want scrambled eggs have them cooked by the chef if you like them piping hot. Other meals and drinks a tad on the expensive side. Other than that a lovely holiday in a most peaceful and relaxing setting.

Would I stay there again - most certainly.

“Wonderful Spanish Hotel - Dreaming of coming Back!!”

Hotel Sidi San Juan

Aug 27, 2007

We stayed at Sidi San Juan for a week in late July. It was a perfect hotel experience!!! The San Juan beach is the best I have experienced in Spain and the views from the hotel are fantastic. Lying on their lovely sun deck reading a book and sipping a coke while overlooking the San Juan bay is unbeatable. We had a car and drove to other spots on the coastline from Alicante to Valencia, but hotel-wise I liked Sidi San Juan best. The rooms were lovely with great balconies. Service great (very nice front desk staff) and breakfast very enjoyable. Normally we do not like to eat inside the hotel as rather experiencing something local. We however tried the Sidi restaurant twice for dinner and it was exquisite. That restaurant is a well kept secret!

One thing that I really liked about Sidi San Juan was that the atmosphere was very Spanish. I do not appreciate going somewhere to find out that 90% of the people in the hotel are my fellow country men or German or English. Here there was a nice mix with a majority of Spanish couples and well-behaving large families vacationing together. Wonderful and genuine! The staff had no problem speaking English though.

I was not so found of Alicante, pretty boring city. Nice restaurants around the harbour though and Ok shopping. For a more metropolitan feeling ,Valencia was much nicer. However, hotel and beach wise nothing beat Sidi San Juan. I would definitely go back again for a beach vacation!!!

“Good Enough”

Hotel Sidi San Juan

Jul 13, 2007

It isn't really a 5 star hotel from the perspective of rooms, furnishings, public areas and breakfast. It is fine though and comfortable enough. 4 star it would be.

The gardens are very good for relaxing and there are plenty of sunbeds. The beach is clean and a walk of about 15mins brings you to the promenade where there are several restaurants and cafes. On he street it takes about 20 mins to walk there. It is a pleasant area, popular (as is the hotel) with Spanish families.

English isn't widely spoken but phrasebook Spanish easily gets you what you want. There is a pleasant supermercado and a bar just on the corner.

We had one dinner in the hotel. The fixed price of 35 euros wasn't worth it and there were few diners even though the hotel seemed to be packed.

The hotel minibus is great value but you do have to book as it seats about 8 only. Taxi from the airport is 27 or 28 euros.
