“Too crowded...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

This is a very nice restaurant, placed in a beautiful district of Madrid. The outside is really attractive, due to its nice decorations. Inside, anyway, we weren't able to have tapas because we didn't even see the pavilion because of the people... We were forced to sit in the restaurant section ( which was almost empty ) and we had "pimientos rellenos", a very hot dish with peppers, and a dish with vegetables ( well cooked vegetables ). Everything was good, but a little bit too heavy... Price was average for Madrid, 25 euros.

“Brilliant Local Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

The restaurant may not look its best from the tiled front, but the food, service and atmosphere inside are fantastic!

There were lots of local diners while we were there. Meat / Seafood were very fresh and food / wine are of good value.

“good reliable, friendly tapas bar at a good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

was here last Sunday round 10 pm...bar was busy and full and the restaurant side was as well...Ordered sangria at the bar and was given a free tapa and waited until our table was ready which didnt take long at all..The service was brisk but friendly and suggested many things on the menu to us. We decided on the jamon platter and the tapas for two. Such good choices. THe jamon was just too big and so rich to eat that much..clearly enough for a party of 30 and the tapas sampler was 4 dishes that was more than enough. The prices of the entrees seemed on the higher side from some places i had previously looked but the size of them was certainly enough for multiple persons. All in all a great experience.

“Awesome, noisy, tasty tapas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

At night, at about 9 to 10pm on a Saturday night! It's pretty busy! We managed to get a table for two! We got the mixed tapas £20 for 4x tapas (enough for the two of us - we're not huge eaters) although the menu says "£20 per person for the tapas.

Packed with people standing and drinking at the entrance! Just walk through and see if you can get a table!

The stuffed pepper tapas was the best! Super tasty. The potato and egg tapa was nice but a but bland next to the other very tasty tapas.
The fish was good and the deep fried calamari was good too! Very lightly crumbed and nice (not chewy calamari).

The bread was awesome! Came out piping hot and keeps coming out as you finish it!

House red was strong. Beer was nice! Typical noisy like a bar!

Service was great! Definitely worth checking out for tapas.

“A classic in Madrid which doesn't deceive you”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I always come to La Chata when visiting Madrid and it's exceptional. A no-frills, typical tavern with small tables and chairs, jolly staff and lots of noise - all part of the enchantment. All the tapas are excellent. They accomodated obligingly our baby with the stroller and no problem.
