First evening in Madrid, ren into thsi restaurant close to our hotel. It as a nice surprise with a very welcoming staff and a garnished menu of Spanish cuisine. Can't say we kmade the righ choices but I put these on the language barrier. Very crowded and appreciated among Madrilens.

“BASQUE CUISINE AT ITS BEST”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2014

Whenever in Madrid my wife and I visit this restaurant which we've known for more than 10 years.
More than once, we come directly from the airport with our luggage !
The staff is outstanding. Most of them have been with the restaurant forever... which is always a good sign. The maitres are extremely professional, having all learnt their office from the most prestigious tables in Madrid. The local is relatively small but welcoming and cozy. They just underwent a decoration overhaul which is charming and gives more light to the place.
The food is close to what you could find in the best restaurants in San Sebastian or Bilbao.
Not in vain has the basque cuisine be renowned for ages. The prime material are superb and the cuisine itself is exquisite and inventive without being over the top. Among the gems: the lasagna of Xanguro ( fresh crab), the Funghi Porcini with foie gras ( in season), the tournedos 'Dantxari", steam cooked with a dash of olive oil, the Anglerfish ( rape) cooked with green garlic.
The desserts are commendable, eg a fig pudding you will not find else where.
The wine list is very well selected, flawless and affordable.
All in all a highly recommended place next to Plaza de Espana. Reserve please.

“Really good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2014

A friend recommended this restaurant and now it is our time to recommend it because it deserves it. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the service is excellent and the food is very good. Fish and seafood better than most. Do not ask for the "buey" though as it is very tough. Other than that, the appetizers were excellent and beautiful presentation. We asked for recommendation of a good house wine and they did not disappoint us. Definitely a place to go back to whenever I go back to Madrid. Ah, and the owners greet you and are very hospitable. We got there about a half hour before our reservation and our table was already waiting for us. The place was packed all the time we were there.
