“For ordinary food and rude staff this is the place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

the food was very very average, The staff from the maitre de to the waiters were ignorant offhand and uncaring.

One waiter actually bounced a plate of food across the table. To give him credit it did stop in exactally the right spot so he must have had lots of practice.

GIVE THIS ONE A BIG SWERVE¡¡¡

“Old-fashioned”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013 via mobile

The food was good and we liked most of it but the waitstaff was horrible. Our waiter was rude and on multiple occasions we asked for something and we were looked straight in the eye and didn't get what we asked for until we asked twice more. The atmosphere was the best part of our experience .

“Old and traditional restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Queen Isabel II of Spain used to visit it and utilize the reserved dining rooms for her "meetings": great soups, great cocido madrileño. An institution.

“Classical Madrid food in a relaxing restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

This is a review of the Lhardy restaurant on first floor. You will find a classical restaurant with White linen and waiters in black suites. At 9 in the evening the dining hall was quiet and relaxing, just what we needed after a long day touring Madrid.
Menu is also a classical mix of traditional Madrid staples, such as cocido or callos, and french dishes.
Being tripe lovers we chose callos a la Madrilena, which was very good, and gave us some ideas to improve italian recipes.
For desserts we had the soufflé, which actually was more a baked Alaska than a soufflé, and the creme caramel, which again was not a classical creme caramel. Both were excellent, accompanied by a sweet Port wine.
Service very attentive and fast Bill not unreasonable, but on the expensive side.

“Such an unfortunate disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

As you can see from my grand total of 2 reviews, I don't post extensively because most hotel and restaurant experiences are fine and don't require additional comments from me. My wife and I went to Lhardy's today for lunch. We were ushered into the lovely leather tooled wallpaper room and immediately felt unwelcome. The room was full of locals. We live in San Francisco and have eating internationally extensively.I was appropriately dressed (no baseball hats, shorts, or tee shirts). The food was marginal at best. My wife's pork loin was way over cooked. The wait staff could not have been ruder. Plates were literally thrown down in front of us. We asked for a bottle of water on 3 occasions and it never arrived. The service would be considered poor at a diner, but clearly unacceptable at a relatively high end establishment. We were so hoping that this would be a wonderful lunch but his restaurant has a ways to go in cuisine and service.
