“Great choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

First time in Madrid. Chueca is fun but not as smart as some areas of Madrid. Great for the gay scene.
Oscar exceeded our expectations. We upgraded to a superior room as we had read reviews of noisy neighbours. Fabulous room. Bright, funky, clean and comfortable.
Breakfast buffet was great (for Spain) and the breakfast boys were attentive and (extremely pretty!)
Reception staff were incredibly helpful from check in to check out and everything in between.
Brilliant choice for a first visit to Madrid. The only negative was that the roof and pool area was closed which would have been nice to have been notified about in advance as we were looking forward to the views.
ps I would suggest taking a taxi straight to the hotel from the airport if you don't know your way around madrid. It's actually about 50 Euros but worth it. You can take the train back for about 5 Euros once you've got your bearings.

Wow!

I do not know what to say.... what a beautiful comment you have left here!! Nothing makes us happier than reading you have enjoyed your stay with us in Oscar, but your words were just... beautiful!!

I do apologize for the roof top renovation but I am pretty sure is going to be worth it and in your next visit to Madrid (hope to see you soon around here) you will love it.

Best regards from all the team!

“A nice surprise in Central Madrid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Room Mate Oscar was the perfect location for my 1st trip to Madrid with my partner. It is centrally located in the Chueca district near restaurants, cafes and the San Anton Market. The staff is friendly and our room was a good size for European standards and well appointed. We liked the roof top bar for a nice drink and great views of the area. We were somewhat bore with the daily breakfast which was thankfully included in our package. I don't recommend paying 6.95€ if it is not included since there are many nearby cafes that offer better breakfast. Their breakfast consisted of exactly the same lower grade hams and sweets and breads with no daily variation. Other than that small detail, the Oscar is a great home base to explore Madrid as is only 2 blocks from Gran Via and a stop of the Madrid Tours Buses. You can also walk to El Prado, Plaza Mayor and Palacio Real.

Room Tip: Avoid the 7th floor, this is the access floor to the roof top bar and it can get noisy.

“Comfortable Stay in well-situated, clean hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This is my second stay at this time - this time as a solo traveller looking for a cheap but modern, lively hotel near the center of Madrid.

It didn't disappoint - rooms were clean, arty, quiet, and with good amenities. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms functional. Lighting in the entire hotel (incl rooms) is interesting / funky.

Breakfast at the hotel was delicious (see pic) with tons of food and good coffee machines. The breakfast room looks over a square near Chueca. I didn't go to the roof deck this trip but the pool / rooftop bar was a highlight from my last trip.

I gave this stay 5 stars mainly for the location, cleanliness and value. For the price I paid, I really think this (and other Room Mate hotels such as the Laura) are hard to beat for staying in Madrid close to the nightlife. Service was friendly and useful too. Definitely give this hotel a try.

“Chunks of vomit in my sink”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

The young, eager staff at room mate Oscar did their best to deal with each problem as it arose, but in the end, this hotel just plain sucks. We are two couples traveling in Spain. The " do you want to sleep with me" banner stretched across the front of the hotel should have been our first tip off....
Our rooms were on the top floor, ensuring that every visitor to the roof top bar and "pool" traipsed noisily past our doors all night. Room one was a good sized room with a balcony, but the balcony doors were broken and did not lock. The toilet bowl was filthy and the sink did not drain, due we discovered, to the chunks of vomit left by the last occupant, that were clogging the drain. By the time we returned to our room after a late night supper, the staff had unclogged the sink and cleaned the bathroom as per our request. The balcony door could not be fixed. Oh, did i forget to mention the police in the lobby when we returned? Room two was hot and so tiny that the door hit the corner of the bed. The shower had visible mold. We were promised new rooms the following day and offered breakfast vouchers. We got into bed, tired and a little grossed out and were waken at 6:00 AM by a wake up call that had not been requested. The hairdryer shorted out and the replacement i got from the cleaning person i found in the hall, was in poor condition. The staff moved both couples to rooms on a lower floor the next day. The rooms were an improvement, however the sink in one room poured water onto the floor. It was as if there were no pipes, just an opening in the bowl that poured onto the bathroom floor. The staff offered an upgraded room for our last night, but that would have meant moving three times in less than 72 hrs so we refused their offer. Four of twelve lightbulbs in one room are burnt out, toilet paper holders in both rooms are broken, the cleaning staff did not replace the sliver of soap which did not last through two showers. As I write this review at 1:16 AM on the last night of my stay, someone has been pounding on a nearby room door for just under five minutes, while other doors have been banging open and shut and people are treading noisily through the hall and above my room. It will be good to check out.

Room Tip: Stay off the 7th floor. Better yet, stay elsewhere.

“Location, location, location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

We stayed for four nights in this hotel in mid September. The location is superb, situated in the beating heart of Madrid. The rooms however, whilst comfortable, we're not that amazing. Our room was a standard double, with no view and the toilet and shower were located - quite literally - at the bottom of the bed. Five feet and a frosted glass partition does not really provide that much privacy. That aside, it's a cool hotel with a lively crowd to match. If you want peace and quiet this isn't for you but them again neither is a weekend in Madrid.
