“Wonderful modern hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

I came here with my girlfriend as a surprise trip for her birthday and found the hotel and the level of customer service to be very personal and just generally great.

We had a standard room, which although was a little on the small side, was very bright and modern, plus very reasonably priced. We had a lovely view overlooking the Plaza Santa Ana and the beds were very comfortable, whilst the double glazing ensured we did not hear very much noise from the hustle and bustle of the square outside. The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to most of the main attractions, with lots of nice tapas bars and watering holes nearby.

The staff were great, very accommodating with any requests and always went out of their way to help you, they even remembered who you are (which is something of a rarity these days). They were also more than happy to book our dinner reservations for us.

We went to La Botin (the oldest restaurant in the world) and the place was great. It was a lovely old building that oozed with character on the inside and the suckling pig was very tasty, it was a bit pricey but I would say well worth it. We also went to a flamenco show at Corral de la Morería and the show was great, the food was pricey for what you get but the whole experience was good so I would say worth the high price tag.

Overall I could not recommend this hotel highly enough, when I come back to Madrid I will definitely be staying here again.

Two nights, three days in Madrid. Totally recommend the Alicia. Great location - really very accessible on foot to all the main sights and museums.
Hailed taxi door to door from the airport was €35 ( €34 return) and took about 25 minutes - don't bother with the Aero Citi service at the airport. Airport Express was also recommended but not used.
Back to the hotel - Junior suite was a real treat, standard room also very good. Wednesday to Friday (including a major football match) absolutely quiet and totally restful on Plaza Santa Ana. Lots if local bars and restaurants. Pleasant 10 minutes walk to the more touristy areas of Gran Via and Porto Del Sol but Alicia avoids all the downside elements if the city.
Lovely reception staff could not be more helpful.
Only minor negatives were lack of tea/coffee facilities for first morning hot drink and report from standard room was that the in-room shower was slightly 'intimate' and does not cater well for friends/older siblings sharing the room. A few more 'blackout strips' across the door would allow a little more modesty.

Stayed at Room Mate Alicia for a couple of days during Easter. The problems with this hotel are rather obvious and easy to spot. Firstly, it seems that some of the rooms are unbearably hot, and the Air Conditioning system does not work. Secondly, the set-up of the rooms is not for those who enjoy their privacy: the toilet door does not close completely, and and shower door is mostly transparent. Finally, the electronic music that played in the reception and breakfast areas was not too loud, but after 2 days it did get rather annoying.

Now for the positive aspects, which - in my opinion - more than make up for the problems I mentioned before. The hotel is located right in the middle of Madrid. Very close to key places like the Puerta del Sol or Reina Sofia Museum, but at the same time not as loud or full of people as those areas. In addition to this, the breakfast was above average. Good coffee, great cakes and bread and access to fruit in a beautifully designed room.

The last comment goes to the staff. If I recall correctly we dealt with 4 different receptionists and 2 breakfast stewards during our 3-day stay. All of them, with no exception, were great. Very helpful, always with a smile on their faces, and going out of their ways to make our stay memorable. Even the cleaner, with whom we happened to talk a couple of times, was charming. This hotel has some clear problems, and it is not for everyone. But when the people working at a place like this seem so happy to host you, problems just go away.

This hotel location could not have been better for me and my daughter. There are three metro stops within less than a 10 minute walk and it took us less than 10 minutes to reach The Prado.
The area was charming, old world European and the nightlife was full of bustle in the numerous
tappas bars and restaurants. I was warned on this site that noise from the Plaza could go on until 4am from Thursday - Saturday nights so took earplugs and so was not bothered by the noise.
If you have a concern about this I would ask for a room that does not open onto the Plaza. The staff was very warm, welcoming and fluent in English. They gave worthy suggestions for dining and good directions to attractions. We both enjoyed having the ready pitcher of cold water in the lobby since water is not cheap in Madrid. Breakfast was fine - not great but there was variety to choose from and we were satisfied. Our room was very comfortable and well laid out
for us both to sleep and do work at a table well lit by natural and artificial light. The shower was
great! Definately check this hotel out for an excellent value and location in Madrid.

Will definitely stay here again. On the plus side there are many ticks. The location is brilliant, right on the lovely Santa Ana square and within walking distance of all the tourist sites. The staff are all excellent, they all genuinely seem to love their job. They are great ambassadors for the hotel. The breakfast was terrific, plenty of choice and good quality. We booked the room with the bay window and it was spacious, comfortable and chic. Having the lovely curved sofa was a real bonus. This place was almost 5 stars, if not for a couple of very minor ideas for improvement. Tea or coffee was not available after breakfast and there is really no public areas to relax in. But this place is too good to end on a negative, our memory is of a home from home and that is the best compliment.

I stayed one night here in March 2013. The location is excellent, Plaza de Santa Ana is lovely and convenient for all the sights. The staff were very welcoming and friendly when we arrived. The room was a good size, the toilet had a separate door but the shower and wash basin were part of the bedroom, which is becoming more common and makes the best use of the space available. There were plenty of sockets for charging devices, a safe, minibar, fridge and good storage. The shower was good, although the cubicle could have done with a rack or shelf to put toiletries on. The electronic blind kept out the light well and despite facing into the street, it was quiet, the bed was very comfortable and we slept well. This room was excellent value for money, booked about six weeks in advance online.

I've just spent 3 nights in this very well run, friendly, centrally located boutique hotel. I had a lovely executive room with its own terrace which was very reasonably priced. There is an excellent, generous and varied breakfast available for only 7.50 Euros. I can't recommend it all highly enough.
