“Lovely hotel, friendly staff, & perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

We stayed at this hotel on 2 separate occasions recently; in mid-December and then again in early January. Our room was extremely comfortable....the bed, the pillows, the sheets were SO cozy. And a nice surprise in the bathroom.....heated towel racks! We had just flown in from Puerto Rico, so we were tired and hungry. The friendly staff steered us to a local tapas (and reasonly priced) place right down the block and we were thrilled with the food. The hotel is perfectly located near all of the art museums, but is in an intriguing neighborhood that begs for strolls and window shopping. Lots of antique shops, bodegas, mom and pop flamenco shoe makers, etc. I highly recommend this hotel...great value for under $100.

While I thought the rooms were slightly dated, the rooms are spacious clean had climate control and offered every amenity we could think of, which can be quite unusual for a European hotel. I would stay here again when visiting Madrid.

We stayed here for four days in early December and were very impressed. The staff so helpful, and our room v.comfy with lots of character - traditional, not too big,and a welcome change from the corporate modernist style favored by some. The location perfect, within easy walking distance of so much (no need to even use the metro). Very quiet at night even though we were directly over the 'crossroads' at the NW of the building (all the lanes surrounding the hotel are narrow and almost traffic free - triple glazing also). We had no probs with the WIFI but a password is required each time. We went one notch up when booking the room - the upgrade was well worth it and we were rewarded with a double bathroom/wetroom and bed about the width of Grand Via - and a free newspaper of choice. Lots of great and cheap places to eat out (we skimped on the hotel breakfast). Will be back again..

Room Tip: Treat yourself to an upgrade (go for a corner suite with windows on both sides ...)

Loved Esther at the front desk and the bartender was amazing with recommendations for local spots. They both spoke perfect english and truly made us feel welcome. Unfortunately, room 401 was not as good of an experience. The bed is hard as a rock, the linens feel really cheap, pillows are about 2 feet long and 6 inches wide, layout of the room is TERRIBLE, and the bathtub REAKED of cigarettes. It was honestly NOT good. Someone must have been ashing their cigarettes in there or something. It was clean, but just not up to par for a 4 star hotel. We checked out immediately and went to the Gran Melia Fenix... about $100 more per night but SO WORTH IT. I would never stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: avoid 401 at all costs, terrible layout. I'd personally check the room before agreeing to stay...

Dear Customer

First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to write.
I very much regret that they did not like the room that was assigned. All equipment in Catalonia Las Cortes tries that all our customers leave with the biggest of smiles. I wish I would have asked to change rooms if I had not of his liking, and also give us the opportunity to resolve your complaints, instead of going to another hotel.
For our part we would be glad to have with us again.

Best Regards

We stayed in the junior suite of this hotel and we were surprised by how beautiful and spacious the room is. The hotel room is beautifully decorated with antique and tasteful furniture. The room also has a big marble bathroom and beautiful frescoes on the room ceiling. The bed is huge and we had a good rest in the night although the hotel is just a stone throw away from the busy Plaza Santa Ana as the room has double glazed windows that keeps all the street noise away. The hotel is also situated in a very good location in the city center of Madrid. Museum Prado is just a few hundred meters away and you can reach Plaza Mayor in less than 5 minutes. Highly recommended. We didn't take the breakfast as there are lovely cafes at Plaza Santa Ana which you can have nice breakfast. Also the staff and the bartender are very friendly, polite and helpful.

We weren't sure at first because the bed is incredibly hard but the bath was wonderful, the staff was helpful, and the location was perfect. Avoid the breakfast. It's expensive and there are better, more interesting local cafes right around the corner.

WiFi is a little slow. Staff is friendly and helpful but not as well versed in restaurants or things to do as we would have liked or expected.

It's a great place to stay if you want easy access to all the basic tourist areas.

The only negative is the remarkably hard mattresses. I didn't mind it but some would. The hard wood floors in the bedrooms and marbled bathrooms are excellent, The bedding is top quality as are the towels. We loved the short walk to Pueta del Sol and Plaza Mayor and the Prado which was our top reason for choosing this site. The rooms were quiet with quaitly air and heat options and windows overlooking a quiet alley. The front desk was extra professional, proficient in English and helped us three times with reservation changes. NICE...As the WIFI was going in and out of service. WIFI was free, parking was in a safe spacious underground garage just up the street within a 2 min walk but cost us $32 a day. The breakfast here was terrifiic with many egg and protein options, in a bright comfortable room with attentive staff. They will make you a cappuchino if you ask :) We had two adjoining rooms, They each had huge walk in showers with two head options and tubs in addition. Plenty of space and stands for luggage spacious rooms, large efficient elevators...three so we never waited long for one to transport us. I would go back there again. One suggestion to the hotel...too much fragrance in the lobby...perfume gives some of us a headache...consider a more subtle, neutral, non-floral essence like vanilla ?
I would just wait outside when redez-vousing with family but it was a shame with all your comfortable seating not to linger more in your common area.
