“Great hotel and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2011

Cab to airport bus is 5 euros. Do recommend the cab as the
walk is difficult with luggage. Breakfast was great and a huge
variety of food. Lovely and clean rooms. Staff was outstanding. Do
agree that the beds are a bit hard.

We were only in town for one day and we were able to fit in everything that we wanted to do. This hotel was perfectly located. It is within walking distance to both the Palace and the Prado. It is not situated "in the thick of it" but I found that to be wonderful. The area along the way to the palace is very commercial, loud and touristy. Very fun to walk through on our way back to our quiet spacious hotel room. The staff was very friendly. I was expecting another dose of Spanish surliness but was very pleased with the warmth of the staff. The room was expertly appointed with a sitting area, huge bed, great water pressure, minibar and was very quiet even though our room faced the street. The bed was firm but that seems be common in Europe. Everything else made up for it. After a busy day of sightseeing we were able to take a rest, get freshened up and go out for dinner. All without taking a single cab.
**hint** the airport bus stop is within walking distance. The front desk was kind enough to share this information. It saved us ~20E.

Great location as near plaza Santa ana which is a great base to be at. The hotel is a luxury hotel yet doesn't have the lack of individuality that the sheratons and hiltons miss out in. Awesome room as we had the suite with a large room with 2 lcd's and large marble bathroom and jacuzzi baths. The room is individually themed with hand painted ceilings and luxury throughout. Also staff are friendly yet not too intimidating. The only small point was seeing front desk staff smoking outside the reception. This may be due to in the uk smoking is now seem as a taboo yet here it is more tolerated. Apart from this small point a fantastic hotel with bespoke
Individual boutique luxury and would return and reccomend the property. Well done!!!!!

This hotel was once a palace and, in many ways, it is still quite palatial. We had a beautiful room - marble entry, hardwood floors, marble bath. The ceilings in the bedroom are quite high and the furnishings are sumptious - absolutely grand. The staff was very helpful. If I had one issue, it would be that the bar wasn't open until approximately 6 pm. Other than that, I can highly recommend the Catalonia Las Cortes.

Room Tip: Nice location and easy walking to the square and many major attractions.

This hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to everything in central Madrid. For trip outside of this area, taxi service is relatively inexpensive. For those willing to bear with crowded buses or subway, either form of service is within walking distance.

The pros:
- Safe in room
- Good water pressure
- Very clean
- Turn down service, which means your room is cleaned twice a day
- Our Suoerior room faced the street and we never heard any noise from outside, although we were in the second floor
- Superior rooms are set apart from regular rooms, so very quiet
- Centrally located and within walking distance to many places of interest
- Free wireless Internet
- Friendly staff
- Option of late check-out (albeit, at a fee)

The cons:
- For a four star hotel, the bed was a bit firm. It you prefer a firm bed, than it won't matter. I was able to sleep well, but my spouse had problems sleeping during the four nights that we stayed there
- Breakfast was only adequate and food that should be hot (eggs, bacon, sausage) were lukewarm and sometimes even cold

In conclusion, if you are traveling with a budget, but wish to stay at a nice hotel, this is a good choice. But if you are willing to pay more to get the Superior or higher end rooms here, I suggest the Westin Palace, where you will get more for about the same price. Of course, I only discovered this fact after already being in Madrid.

Also, if you decide to stay here, do not pay for the breakfast in advance. By that, I mean, do not include it as part of your room reservation. The reason: the hotel sometimes offers breakfast buffet specials which are 6.50 Euro per person cheaper than the Internet rate. When I booked my room, breakfast for two people was quoted at 33 Euro. I did not book it in advance. Once at the hotel, it only cost 10 Euro per person.

Room Tip: Book direct through hotel website for best deals

Highly practical, though not charming or very personal.

The location perfect. The rooms are clean, big, and very quiet.

There's an option for a late check out that is worth every penny (40 euros) if the weather is hot, and you have a late flight.
