“Design hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

The hotel is amazing in design. Each floor is different. We were staying I think the fourth floor, the room was all black, koupenla of wood. If you want to start something unusual, this is the right place.

The only problem is the location. But front of door is a plenty of taxi cars.

WLAN unusable slow, very unreliable and only open for port 80/443. According to hotel staff this situation exists for years... 10th floor looked like a dark room, all in black, even the sheets and pillow. Some annoying constant sounds during the night. Very good breakfast

Dear Dirk,

First of all we would like to thanks your comments, they are always helpful for us.

We really regret that you have found weak our standard WiFi connection; we are working hard to improve the coverage of our standard WIFI in all rooms. However, there is a Premium Internet Service that can be hired in case you need a higher speed.

The 10th floor has been designed by the architect Arata Isozaki, in an absolute Japanese style, following the Feng-Sui rules, with a total black look even in the sheets, a bathtub made of Hinoki wood and elements such as wall panels and references to the altars of Japanese households.

Once again thank you very much for your time, I hope to have a new chance to welcome you again to our hotel in the future, so you can have the opportunity to experience a new floor!

Yours sincerely,

Valeria Knop

We wanted a modern 5 star hotel and the Silken delivered. Each floor is very different and the lifts are on the outside of the building. We liked the open air night club on the 13th floor with no windows! The breakfast was excellent with 5 star service. The food in the bar we thought was poor so we tried the main restaurant the service was excellent but the food was expensive. There is a gap for the breakfast restaurant to open in the evening. The hotel is 15 minutes from the Airport and 10 minutes from the centre. We stayed on the 7th floor in a red room with a round bed and projector TV. The main problem was if you wanted to watch the TV you could not look out of the window. We would like a sofa, shelves in the bathroom and more space next time.Madrid is a great place with lots to see and do we will return.

Room Tip: Ask to look at the rooms before you decide.

If you ever look forward to visiting a modern art exhibition, then you should for sure book this hotel. Do not hesitate to have a look on each floor lobbies and corridors... If you are waiting for a 5 stars GL service, then you should book another one.
People at the front desk are very kind, smily and helpful but... the male breakfast manager is just awful. As he didn't believe us that we had a night + breakfast package, he brought us a bill for it. We needed to go to the front desk by ourselves to prove him we were right. Hopefully the female breakfast manager on the day after was much more comprehensive and friendly...
About wifi, the system is just a mess : one password for each device and it changes every day ! and it works when it wants to... And don't try to get your emails on your iPhone or iPad. Go directly on the internet access to get them.
And the bed ? Even if the room (1st floor) was just unbelievable, unforgettable, "starwars-modeled", the bed itself was much alike a 2 stars hotel we had a few years ago in Prague : a thick and hard mattress lying on a wood board. Is this a 5 stars GL standard ?
The hotel deserves an A+ for its design and its originality but a C- for service and amenities.

Dear Etienne,

First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing us and sending your comments regarding your stay.

We are terribly sorry for the misunderstanding regarding your breakfast and, as you already know, the discrepancy was solved diligently by the Front Desk when checking the reservation documents.

The Silken Puerta América offers free WIFI access in all public areas and rooms, and each device needs to have a different code and password. Although we know this can be tiresome, there is no possibility to change it in our existing system. Regarding the weak signal, we are aware of the problem and are working hard to improve the coverage of our standard WIFI in all rooms. However, there is a Premium Internet Service that can be hired in case you need a higher speed connection and that offers a very reliable connection.

Our mattresses are of the finest quality and have been manufactured by Pikolín. This is a very well know Spanish brand. They offer a standard firmness and according to many of our customers, our beds are the most comfortable they have slept in. We obviously understand that not all customers are used to the type of mattress or the same firmness, and for these cases, our housekeeping team can supply accessories such as duvets, pillows and lining to adapt the mattress to the specific customer needs. Please, if you visit us again, do not hesitate to request this option by simply calling our Front Desk.

Thank you again for taking the time to complete the Trip Advisor review. We really appreciate your feedback and we look forward to having the opportunity to welcome you back at the Silken Puerta América!

Kind regards,

Valeria Knop

This very special hotel had a designer for each floor. We staid on the 7th floor, where the rooms are completely white, and where all shapes are round, even the bed. With domotics, you can control almost anything in the room (tv, airco, window, sunscreen, light). The staff is very friendly. There is a rooftop bar, which was unfortonatelly not available for the 2 evenings we spent here, due to private parties. Even if the party itself could not be heard in the room, when drunk people came back in the rooms, this generated a lot of noice in the middle of the night.

This is a very nice property, the design of the hotel rooms is amazing, modern and clean, service is extremely efficient and friendly, brekfast amazing (a bit expensive at more than 25.00 pp) and is close to a metro station but.......
The rooms are small, there is no privacy for when you need to use the toilet, the showers take some time to adjust because the water coming out from the shower head is either hot or cold and low on preasure.
My advice......nice if you are traveling alone or with an intimate companion but just for a couple of night, I would not recomend this nice hotels for long stays.

Room Tip: Each Floor has a completely different design, my favorites are the 7th, 8th, and 1st floors.

Very nice hotel in the outskirts of Madrid at a perfect distance from the airport and very center of the city.
All rooms have a unique design with a personal touch. The uniqueness of he rooms made the stay special in spite of for instance the size of the room and the fact that it was a popular tourist hotel with a lot of people and a popular bar on the topfloor which made the usage of the elevators somewhat challenging at "peak hours"
