Great hotel in a perfect location for anyone wanting to be near the Retiro park. We have 3 children ages 5, 10, and 12, so the park was a great way to start each day. The staff is amazing. The rooms are quiet, clean, and include free minibar soft drinks if you book on bookings (also the best rate!). Wifi was nice as well. I highly recommend this hotel as it offers great value at 69 Euro/night for August travel (low season). Note that if you want to be closer the downtown sights, restaurants, clubs, this is not the hotel for you.

We stayed on May 2006 for two nights. Years ago I lived in Madrid and chose this hotel because of its location close to Goya street and because of its reasonable price. But I regretted not having paid enough attention of a flaw mentioned by others who stayed at Madrid "High Tech" hotels, obviously designed by the same architects.
This is a brand new hotel inside an refurbished building. It definitevely is not a four star hotel. It has only one elevator so there always is a wait. The room was of regular size. There are no walls between the bathroom and the bedroom area which are separated by a glass partition. It is a quarter inch think glass which goes from the floor to the ceiling. It is partially coated with a translucent gray film depicting trees which does not provide a minimum of privacy. The glass separates the bed from the toilet, too close to comfort. The bathroom door is on a side and is also made of glass and does not fully close.

This arrangement is not acceptable to me and perhaps to most couples who appreciate privacy.

We stayed at the hotel with our 2 children, age 8 and 2. The family room with bunk beds was perfect, and did have an exercise bike/in-room safe/mini-bar. Agree with the other reviewer that the glass bathroom walls may not be for all, however it worked for us. One drawback is the family room we stayed in does not have a tub, which might be a problem for some children.

Overall, the stay was exceptional. The service was terrific ... from the courteous and responsive front desk staff, to the breakfast buffet, to the cleaning staff. They arranged a sitter for us one evening who was quite capable, and arranged tickets to some local events for us. The location is terrific for shopping, and is near Retiro Park for the children to play.

Make sure to reserve the family room (which has the bunk beds) if staying with your family.

I would agree with the previous review.
Myself and my husband stayed in the hotel for a week.

We had booked a room with a bath and a shower - however were not given one on arrival (apparently few rooms have baths)
The initial room we stayed in was clean and compact - nice modern decor..however this may date fast- bed comfortable - excellent shower -however the bathroom was separated from the bed area by a glass partition ie the toilet was right beside the bed(with the exception of the glass partition)..while this did not particularly bother us - this would not to be ever persons liking!

During our week, the hotel had problems with its hot water supply(we had cold showers on 4 occasions - 3 days). After the first cold shower(day 2), we compained at reception and also pointed out that the room did not have a bath. The junior member of staff at reception did not handle our complaint well - we therefore asked for the manager. What a difference! She handled us very well / professionally and showed us a room with a bath (which we subsequently moved to).

The second room was right beside the lift(which was a bit of a pain, depending on how loud the other guests were!). It's decor and layout was similar to the first, except the bathroom was much more acceptable( only glass doors rather than an entire glass wall) and the bath(massage) was fabulous(when there was hot water!). Our only complaint was that there was a family next to us with a toddler who kept us awake for most of 2 nights(ie the walls of the hotel are very thin...can't really blame the child) - we did not complain about this as could not be bothered moving again.

When we did complain about the lack of hot water - the female manager expained to us what was happening + dropped up complimentary fruit to the room on 2 occasions, offered us dinner on another(we did not take her up on this) and breakfast the morning of departure(wonderful but certainly not worth 15Euro)

Overall - the location is fab! The rooms appear hit and miss - layour with the bathroom and glass partitions may not be to everybodies liking + would advise avoiding the rooms beside a lift

We had an excellent time in Madrid, loved the city, atmosphere, dining, tapas, partying, just about everything. This hotel is in Salamanca, a nice upmarket area of Madrid, however very quiet in weekends when all shops are closed. The hotel has just opened. We had booked a High Tech room on the hotel's internet site. It promises (amongs others) an exercise bike and steam shower cabin as High Tech room extras. At first we were shown a very small hotel room without the High Tech room extras. I don't think so.... The computer at reception did show this room as a High Tech room. It sure didn't look that way. We ended up in a larger room on the top floor, however still no High Tech extras!!!! It seems they promise you extras they only deliver in a few rooms, so the High Tech upgrade is dubious. The receptionist told us we should have requested an exercise bike and steam shower when booking. I don't think this is the way it works when you promise the extras on your site and High Tech rooms are available when booking ;-)... So think of which room you'd like to book and specify the extras.

However after that our stay was very good. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choices including delicious Spanish hams, salami and chorizo. Very friendly service at breakfast as well (which you normally don't really get in Spain, but that's how Spain works...). I would recommend this hotel if you're interested in staying in the Salamanca area. Please note there are other Petit Palace hotels in Madrid - at about every corner in the city. So lots of other location options.
