Stayed here while taking a week's worth of language classes at Elemadrid (great, small, friendly language school within walking distance of this hotel. Would definitely recommend.)
Hotel's rooms were small, but clean, sleek and modern. Staff was very chic, but friendly and very patient as I stumbled through just-learned Spanish. The food was excellent, but very very expensive (and I say this as a New Yorker.) Worth it only if it's late or if you just don't have the energy to go out.
There's a teeny little bar with a tv and a friendly staff. It's right in front of the main staircase to the guest rooms (they also have an elevator) so many people will have a drink before they go up and chat with fellow travellers.
I think the Petit Palace chain considers itself primarily a business hotel, and that's how it feels. I'd absolutely stay again for business or for classes, but I might look for more character if it was a romantic vacation.
One odd thing I noticed was that my king size bed ws two twin beds pushed together. Not sure if it was a last minute thing they set up or if that's how all their kings are arranged. Again, ok for a solo business traveller, but would have been a problem on more romantic trip.
