The Glorieta de San Vicente contains a monument called Puerta de San Vicente. Carlos III ordered Francesco Sabatini to design a new gateway to the city and the architect finished it in 1775. However the monument was dismantled in 1890 to improve traffic. In 1990 the City of Madrid decided to have the monument restored, but the original pieces were missing. However a replica was made by the engineer Juan de las Heras Azcona and that is what is now found in this plaza.
