Description: What a joy to fuss, becomes the most authentic!Carmencita's Tavern.I live at 16, rue de la Libertad. From my windows I have seen revolutions and flamenco dances on the edge of a table, I saw modernized neighborhoods; sails off, listen to my tiles reciting verses of Lorca. And laugh at the bar with Neruda taken vermouth and wines.I closed the gates to be freethinkers shelter. Now open them wide to get that air eatery. To make you feel like home. And you always have something good to eat. And you spend the morning with the rich flavor of freshly roasted organic coffee. To help us to regain that world heritage in Madrid wich is the vermouth, with tigers, negronis and characters, with contemporary lunch and tapas of the mountain, organic beef steaks and spherical organic eggs as grandmas used to cook. With croissants and a glass of milk from dairy ecological cows who grow happy in the mountains of Madrid. Dinners at 2 in the morning, when the moon is more scoundrel. Because we are the most traditional tavern Madrid. The second oldest and if we have learned anything these 159 years, is that nocturnal cats like to drink and dine at funny tables without going home. So we hide the closed sign up that artists choose to write poetry that do not cease, odes to the tomato and seal with bloody meris their scripts. We welcome you with a smile, like lightning that never stops. 159 years after the carmencita tavern is back again. This only happens in Freedom St. Where else could be? 91 531 09 11

“Great food reasonably priced in a good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013 via mobile

Private dining room was cozy but a little hot. We managed to over order our starters so struggled with mains. Food was delicious served with a smile! Very traditional and filling tapas starters which should have been more than enough but we were greedy.

“Delicious food with high quality ingredients”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

We had lunch at Taberna La Carmencita, aprox. 1 month after it had reopened with a new look and management. The waiter, very kind, explained us that the restaurant was bought by some people from Santander, who already had 2 restaurants there. All the ingredients, mostly ecological, come from that area and have excellent quality. They chose to maintain the restaurant as it looked like more than 200 years ago, with its nice and typical hand-made tiles. The furniture and lightening is sober and just right.

As a starter, we were recommended the vegetables of the day (alcachofras with jamón Serrano and a mixture of potatoes and egg), it was probably one of the best alcachofras dishes I've ever had.
Then we selected on main dish for each (Maybe a bit too much food!): We had arroz caldoso marinero (rice with sea food) and cabrito al horno (slowly-cooked meat on the oven). The dessert list seemed amazing - with home-made pies and ice-creams - but we just couldn't have nothing else.

This meal for 2 costed us 67€ (including one vermouth, 4 glasses of wine and a bottle of water). A bit expensive, but definitely worth every penny.

The kitchen is opened from 9am to 2am and the menu changes throughout the day.

Table tip: the best table (for 2) is the one by the window, next to some old glass jars who give a well-put "grandmother's house" look to the place.

“great pinchos and beer, what else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

This place has been there for ages, always serving simple pinchos and little bocadillos, with the best ingredients ( their tuna and red pepper little bocadillo is to die for ) .
So try to get there ( sometimes this is really challenging ) and order a beer and ...
