This is one of those reviews that I hesitate to write, because I don't want my favorite place to be ruined! If you are out for tapas or a night out in La Latina, Madrid's old town, but find crowded Cava Baja street to be a bit too much, then a stroll down Calle Humilladero might be a good option. This is a small bar/restaurant, run by "the grandchildren of Carmela", brother and sisters and their girlfriends, dads and friends. With every drink comes a tasty, innovative tapa, and they have a good selection of wine and what they call "ecological" beers here in Spain. Their food shows their roots, delicious vacio steak from Argentina and occasionally homemade Argentinian empanadas. I also love the chipirones with guacamole, tasty tender sauteed squids. What makes this bar special though, is something that can be rare in Spain -- SERVICE! Most of the bartenders speak excellent English , or will help you with your Spanish, and are friendly and fun. A good group of people from the neighborhood pass thru as well.....another indicator of it's local charm. They have wifi too, if you need it. Not to be missed during August's La Paloma festival, when they have tables outside to people watch. This place is also dog-friendly!
