“Good choice in Madrid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

This is a very good hotel with excellent price compared to other hotels in the same category. Location is excellent if you want to go the museums (Prado and Reina Sofia) because it's just across Prado museum and within 10 min of Reina Sofia. It's also within a 15 min walk from Atocha train station. If you're coming from the airport, take the Express yellow bus and get off in Plaza de las Cibeles. Just walk 5 min in Paseo del Prado and you get to the hotel in Plaza Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo (or Neptune Plaza).
But despite being close to this places, it's not in the middle of Gran Via with all the shops. Nevertheless, you can easily walk to Gran Via, Puerta Del Sol and Plaza Mayor, I had no problem with that.
The room was comfortable but small. Bathorooms are clean, good size, but kind of dark with all that green marble on the walls and floor. Very nice beds. I asked for a quiet room and I got one facing the internal part of the building, so I can't say much about the noise in the street. I didn't have breakfast in the hotel, but I sthink I should have because there was nothing good in the near the hotel... the only complain I have is that they offered free wifi only in the lobby...if you want internet in the room, you have to pay for it.
Be aware of the pickpockets in the nearest Starbucks...My friend had his iphone stollen in the very first day of our trip.
Two good tips for Madrid: we took the hop-in hop-off bus for 20 Euros. It's ok, but I had seen everything on foot the day before. Nevertheless, you can use the same ticket to get the last bus of the day and see Madrid at night. This was very nice!
The other good tip is to have lunch at Mercado San Miguel next to Plaza mayor.

The location of this hotel is amazing. You are just steps from the Museo del Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza,
the Jardin Botanico, a few blocks from the train station, and numerous historical churches. Up the hill a few blocks are so many restaurants, you won't know what to do with yourself.

The room - at least the one I was given - was basic, and small. I had a small desk to the left of my bed, and maybe only 10 square feet of uncovered space. My large bed was the typical European two-singles-pushed-together, and the bathroom had lower water pressure, but was quite big.

I'd happily stay again for the location, but would probably look a bit to see if any of the close hotels were comparable.

This Hotel was in a great location to explore (but still kept blocks away from the bustling crowded center of the shopping and dining area). Right across from the Museums and a 15 minute walk to the Palace and Cathedral. The rooms were clean adn beautiful with a waterfall-like shower and the best breakfast buffet I have ever had in a hotel. Friendly staff that were helpful adn spoke English.
The only setback was that free wifi was only available in the lobby adn you had to ask for a new password each time you needed it (only lasting an hour).

Room Tip: There is an elevator so don't worry about rooms on higher floors.

We stayed at NH Paseo del Prado for one night before heading to the airport in Madrid. The hotel was affordable and offers free WiFi in the lobby for guests, which was a big perk for Madrid. It's about a 5 minute walk to the RENFE train station, so super convenient for catching the airport bus. The room was pretty generic, as was the pricey breakfast.

I stopped in Madrid for one night at the last minute during the first part of a business trip knowing nothing about Madrid other than seeing stuff on Travel Channel and Anthony Bourdain's show. I didn't do any research which is atypical but hadn't really planned on staying here.
I shared a cab with other American tourists (31.5 euro) from the airport and went with them to Westin Palace to see if a room would be available. Only room available was for 300 euro ($430) but they recommended NH Paseo Del Prado which is about 100 years away.
For us Americans, the easiest comparison is to a Kimpton hotel in the US, NH is a small botique chain, nicely appointed and stylish. Like many European hotels a tiny elevator (two) and only free WiFi in the lobby, which in this case was OK. I stayed on the 7th floor (704) away from the main street which is quiet but you can still hear sirens if police or fire trucks, but I suppose you would hear those anywhere. Price was 92 euro ($121).
The room had two single beds, a desk, nice wooden closets with a safe inside. It's a bigger room because I saw some of the other rooms when the maids were cleaning. The bathroom is good sized with an all marble floor to ceiling tiles and nice fixtures.
Free coffee in the morning in the lobby from a Nespresso machine which is nice because I have one at home.
The hotel is walking distance (across the traffic circle) from many of the main museums and has access to probably at least 30-40 tapas bars within 400 yards. I think I sampled at least four in the afternoon.
Service is excellent, everyone at the desk speaks English well. There is a gym but I didn't check it out. Also has an attached tapas bar but it seems pricier than the more authentic hole in the wall tapas bars in the area.
I would definitely stay here again and glad that the Westin folks steered me here!

Room Tip: Ask for two keys and leave on in little slot in the room so the AC can remain on.

My husband and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the NH Paseo del Prado. It is in a great location-right across the street from the Prado and the amazing Ritz hotel. It was a great place to stay if you take the Aeropuerto bus from/to the airport because the bus stops are very close (within a 5-10 minute walk). If you want to be right on a busy Spanish plaza there were other hotels that would be better suited-but this hotel is really close to most of the plazas (about a 10-15 minute walk). The hotel is gorgeous on the outside and the room we had was spacious (#416). I noted outside our room in the hallway it appeared there had been some water damage which I reported to the front desk. The carpet is interesting and fairly well maintained. The staff was friendly. We didn't have any meals at the hotel but it appeared to have a happening outside bar area.
