We completed our 10 day trip to Spain with 2 nights in Madrid and stayed at the Siete Islas Hotel. The location was very good. It is just off the Gran Via, a large boulevard near great restaurants, shopping, tour buses, city buses and Metro stop. We speak very little English but we were helped greatly by the front desk staff and were out touring in no time. We arrived in a rental car and quickly decided to turn the car in and use the city transportation. The parking in the historical part of the city is very limited and expensive. Although, if you have a car, there is a parking garage across the street from the hotel and another parking garage near the hotel that the hotel offers discounted parking rates. The Siete Islas is on a side street that felt a little "seedy" There is an adult [--] shop on the street and several hostals. We walked up and down the street at all hours and never felt unsafe.....it is the city and some of that is to be expected.
The hotel property is very well maintained and is clean and pleasantly decorated inside. The staff is very helpful. They offer free wireless internet throughout the hotel, even in the rooms. My husband had some trouble getting the internet started in our room but it was quickly straightened out with a visit to the front desk and a code that was needed to get it started. The room is not extra large but was adequate for our needs...the bathroom was nice and offered toiletries like shampoo, razor, soaps, lotions, etc. Hairdryer was in the bathroom as well. Free breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was a very nice surprise. As Americans, we are used to a nice breakfast to start the day and we had a very difficult time finding our kind of breakfast in Spain. Usually only croissants, toast, jelly and coffee...or should I say Espresso. But the breakfast offerd at the Siete Islas was wonderful! Bacon, sausage, eggs, cereal, toast, fruit, juices....on and on. Wonderful selection and all you cared to eat! Presented in a nice room with table cloths and flowers on the tables.
There is a computer in the main lobby of the hotel for the guests to use. It was very handy for checking emails and also printing boarding passes for our flight home. There is also a small cafe in the main lobby with limited offerings. The only negative that we might mention is the very limited selection of TV channels and no channels available in English. We were not in our room very much since we were there to see Madrid, but it would have been nice to see one news station that we could understand. They had several channels that offered movies for a fee.
Overall our visit to the Siete Islas was very nice and we would definitely return there if back in Madrid. The price was very good and the location and the value made the stay a pleasant experience.
