This a beautifully appointed, very modern hotel. The room was huge; bigger than many studio apartments. The room is decorated in a beautiful modern design, dramatic lighting and has interesting touches like vases, woven wall hangings and even and ostrich egg "conversation piece". This hotel is in a quiet residential neighborhood which means it is wonderfully peaceful at night. Of course, this also means that there are no nearby restaurants either - eat before you return in the evening. The staff was responsive, although less friendly than in some other locations. I have only two negative comments. It is nearly impossible to open the shampoo etc... as they are tubes with foil seals that cannot be removed - good thing there are pencils in the rooms to pierce the foil. The front desk seemed nonplused about my comments regarding the amenities and the fact that they cannot be opened - they told me they often get this complaint (so why not fix it?). The other minor issue was that there is a rather large kitchen in the room and grocery store down the street. Only after returning from the grocery store did I discover that the kitchen doesn't work and that there are neither plates, glasses, utensils pots nor any expected items in the cupboards. The staff explained that they could not get permits for kitchens in the room so they are inoperable. I do recommend they mention this to guests as they check in. I did mange to get a plate and utensils from room service, and the microwave does work so I could make due.
So, really only two relatively minor issues, otherwise this is a great hotel and a great choice while in Madrid.
