“its ok but dont get high expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2010

we were there for two nights, always in a double private room, between another trip to italy. The first night we stay in a room that leads to the main street, so because of the noise we didnt sleep much. Also there was a lot of students in the weekend there and the noise inside the hostel was terrible. The WC is ok and showers are small. The kitchen is great, but the breakfast is poor. The second night, it was during the week and the room was more inside, so we did sleep ok because there was no noise outside and the hostel seems a new one.Staff was very friendly and helpful.I would stay here again but be aware of the noise, if you want to stay in the center it will be always like that.

I stayed here for about 4 nights with 3 other friends. We stayed in a mixed dorm with about 10 other people. The room was big but most space was taken up by the beds which were EXTREMELY noisy and very hard to climb up and down from the bunks without doing youself or someone else an injury. I really loved the fact that we were on the main road, the view was amazing and you could feel the buzz and hear all the noise from outside as we were on the top floor of an apartment block. The building itself is very beautiful. There are only 2 bathrooms and the staff expect everyone to be showered and out of the place by 12, which is impossible, consdering there are 3 other rooms full of beds. There is a very small kitchen and "breakfast" is provided every morning. Tea, coffee and toast with jam.

I wouldn't mind staying here again. It is what it is ( a hostel) and if you're loooking for somehwere you can chill out during the day I would advise not to stay there. It's a get up and go kind of place.

WORST hostel ever! They refused to credit our online deposit, the place is run down, the “breakfast” is crap (the only thing you get is toast and even the toaster is broker), and worst of all the bathrooms are gross. The doors don’t have locks so you can walk into anyone’s room and the lockers you pay to use are plastic boxes in the rooms! All facilities are closed from 11-2 for cleaning so you can't be in any part of the hostel but your bed, but when we come back, it’s just as dirty as when we left!

It was one of the first hostels I tried and I just can say it has been an amazing experience... My friend was stolen her wallet on the way from the airport to the hostel and when we arrived here the host was really sweet and caring, giving us the right skills and everything.. the rooms and beds are average for comfort but the bathroom was cleaned every day and in general it provided a safe place to rest in. The location is really good if your young, near the night life of malasana and chueca..

ive stayed at the barbieri so many times now, it´s the kind of place where you really want to come back as often as possible. The staff is so great, so helpful and always up for some fun! Thanks to the barbieri I now have friends from all over the world! The TV room is really cool, they make movie nights and serve popcorn, + sometimes party nights where you get the famous drink calimocho... Breakfast is good and the hostel is placed in the coolest neighbourhood of madrid! Try it!!!

On arriving it seemed like a really well placed hostel...but when we entered we were greeted with a list of rules. A deposit for sheets which were so old and scabby we chose not to use them. Rooms where so cramped only one person could be standing at a time. The bunk beds were so small that if you sat up in the lower bunk you would hit your head. The room we had faced the street and was so loud with foot traffic and street sweepers i could here it through my earplugs. In the morning the cleaners came into our room with out knocking and then moved our stuff around when we went out for the day. Free breakfast consisted of standing up in the kitchen eating toast and the showers and toilets are all in the same room offering little to no privacy.
I had booked for three nights and stayed only one.

The hostel was fine, as far as hostels go. The bathrooms were clean.
But when we got our sheets they were wet and there was hair all over them, so that was kinda gross. And there was a really strange vibe about the place, there were people that pretty much lived there and were hanging out all the time, like, 24/7. Like, ALL DAY LONG, just sitting in the living room, in the kitchen, smoking cigarettes...very strange. And the night reception man was pretty rude as well. Overall it was appreciated that it was at least clean, and air conditioned from midnight til 7am. Otherwise, just very strange...
