“Great Location, Solid Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Recently spent a week at the Tryp Atocha in Madrid. This is a great hotel and well-located near museums, restaurants, plazas, and the Atocha train Station. We actually traveled with a team of youth soccer players and the hotel could not have been more accommodating of the players and parents. Really well done breakfast was provided each morning with the staff working hard and succeeding on getting everyone seated. I would recommend highly.

Room Tip: Some rooms have questionable views but this is not uncommon in an historic property. All rooms have...

After 8 nights in this hotel I feel it was a good choice as a starting point to visit Madrid. It's in close walking range from the three most important museums (Prado, Reina Sofia ant Thissen), the Anton Martin metro station is 50mt away, the Atocha Renfe station is well in walking range too or just a few euros by taxi and the neighborhood is full of nice bars and restaurants. The price via expedia offers was ok too. It's supposed to be 4 stars, but I'd say it's more like 3, maybe it needs some renovations. The rooms were very clean and the reception staff was helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Calle de Atocha. Some rooms have windows on the inside of the building.

Dear eltz

Thank you very much for your words. We agree that our hotel is well located, nearby the main touristic attractions, specially the 3 big museums, Prado, Reina Sofía and Tyssen Bornesmiza. Atocha station as well is about 5 minutes walking but if you are travelling with luggage is better to take the subway or a taxi.expedia offers was ok too. It's supposed to be 4 stars, but I'd say it's more like 3, maybe it needs some renovations. The rooms were very clean and the reception staff was helpful. The neiborghood is plenty of bar, restaurants, cafes and places to see the spanish life in Madrid, plenty of energy everywhere.

Thank you very much and best regards

I had stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in last week of August. It’s in excellent location of the city centre and everything is very nearby for hop on tours, Atocha railway station and shopping districts. From Atocha station , it’s only 10 minutes direct walk, but beware , if you carry heavy luggage, no matter it’s a rolling trolley bag
It will take your stress in completely since the road is steep upward like Sydney OR Sanfrancisco roads. Once you reach the hotel lobby you won’t find any bell desk to assist with luggage as you expect in any other cities. There is no safe in house and have to deposit at the concierge only. The lobby access is more decorated .
What I like the most is the room as double the size of any double room with large shower area. The breatfast is moderate but no omelette station. No tea/coffee making in house but there is a mini bar and iron board. I recommend this for centralised stay at Madrid and Villa Rosa flamingo show centre is 2 minutes’ walk away.

Dear sknDxb

Thank you very much for your comments. We love the location of our hotel right in the city center, 8 minutes walking to Puerta del Sol, 6 minutes walking from Plaza MAyor and between 6-8 minutes from the Big 3 museums (Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen Bornesmiza). Atocha station is nearby but take in mind that if you are travelling with luggage you should take a taxi or (this is my personal choice) the subway is just 2 station away.

Regarding the facilities you have mentioned, some of them are included in a standar room (safe) and some are included in Premium room (kettle, Iron, Iron board). I am really sorry about the ommelete station, they are served on request but I am afraid that you were not informed or you did not see the sign nearby the hot station (it is small, we will change it).

Thank you and best regards

When we go back to Madrid (because 3 nights wasn't enough) we'll stay here again. It's a beautiful old building, but all modern inside. Close to walk to the train station, we had the buffet breakfast on our last day, and there was a very wide range of food (and sweets!) on offer. It's close enough to the centre to walk to Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol (reminded me of London's Leicester Square it was so busy!), but just away from the busiest street. We had a Premium room - spacious with huge comfy bed (not too soft, not too hard, just perfect for my dodgy back). Free WiFi, fridge, a few English speaking channels on the TV (mostly news). Booked a sightseeing bus tour via the Front Desk/Reception, nice and easy. Supermarkets also close by, to pick up essentials/cheap dinner!

Lastly, another vote of approval for Belen on the Front Desk. We arrived a couple of hours before check-in but she spoke to other staff and found a room that we could go to straight away, gave suggestions for a nice place to eat for our anniversary, and also helped with any queries we had in passing, no matter how random (such as "where can I buy nail polish remover?"!), All the staff were pleasant, but Belen was fantastico! When the hotel reads this review, please do let her know.

Room Tip: Balcony overlooking street - little noisier but not overly so.

Dear PinzyP

Thank you very much for your opinion. As you mentioned our hotel is a good choice to visit the downtown, near the museums and the main touristic places. You made a good choice choosing our breakfast, definitely. Close the hotel is plenty of choices to buy something to eat, from the cheapest and quickest to the most glamourous. Thank you very much for your words to Belén, I will let her now , it is lovely to see the name of somebody of us in your report, that means that we did a good effort to help you.

It would be lovely to hear from you when you come back to Madrid, just make the booking, tell us before arriving and we will take care of your reservation. We will upgrade it with pleasure ¡¡¡

Thank you , have a nice day

We really enjoyed our 3 nights at Tryp Madrid Atocha. The hotel is near the train station making it very easy to get there with our luggage. Belen (at the front desk) was WONDERFUL! She helped out with getting tickets for the on/off bus and a bus tour of Toledo. We asked her advice on visiting Seville vs Segovia. She recommended Seville and her advice was perfect. We loved the city. We would definitely stay here again.

Dear Cynthia S

Thank you very much for your comments. As you say, raylway station is about 5 minutes (attention walking from there with heavy luggage is not reccomended , the hotel is up, 5 minutes walking but is highly reccomended to take a subway ("metro" in spanish) from "atocha renfe" to "Anton Martín", only a couple of stations (about 1.5-2 euros per ticket one way. If you are going to travel with the metro, the best option is one 10 trips ticket for 12.20 euros usable for more than 1 person). Thank you very much to have name one of the names of our staff (all of us, we try hard to do our best to satisfy the client). I will congratulate her for the excellent job.

Thank you very much. Please tell us that you are visiting in order to prepare our best room for you ¡¡¡ have a nice week.

This hotel is very well situated for the old city of Madrid and is within meters of many bars and restaurants which allow you to graze on tapas and drink wonderfully cool beer close by! There is free WiFi, always important, and friendly and helpful staff (although at 6am, when asked to call a taxi, I was told to go out and flag one down in the street!).
The room was large, well-appointed and wonderfully air conditioned and cool. Unfortunately, the window looked into a well within the building and so offered no real natural light, but that was the only minus.
I didn't get the opportunity to eat (out in the evening, too early in the morning) at the hotel and the bar was never open but I'd be happy to return and explore more of the city.

Tryp Atocha is a great hotel if you are looking for a central location to explore Madrid.
Just a few minutes from restaurants, bars, and within walking distance to all the main sights, this is ideal for both business and leisure.

My premium room was spacious, clean, and had a nice balcony overlooking a quiet side street. Staff were very friendly, and accommodating to our needs.

We are really near to all the main attractions (specially Prado Museum, Reina Sofia modern art Museum, Thyssen Bornsemiza museum) and the downtown (Puerta del sol 8 minutes, Plaza mayor 5 minutes, Plaza Santa Ana 4 minutes, Palacio Real and opera 12 minutes, etc). We have one special programm for our guest call "own the city" and we have selected some special routes in Madrid (with the family, go for tapas, lovely pictures of Madrid, etc).
