Great history Great food. Very busy and not just tourists. The suckling pig and the lamb are excellent.

“Old world atmosphere, great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

On most nights during our stay in Madrid we ate tapas, but decided to give Sobrino de Botin a try after reading some reviews. We didn't have reservations and the restaurant was crowded but we were seated immediately at an upstairs table. Our waiter was outstanding, being helpful with the menu and attentive. We had croquettes as a starter, grilled sole and the roast suckling pig. The meals were served promptly but were only slightly better than average. But combined with the ambiance and the service, I've given four stars.

The guide books say it's a bit touristy, and they're right. But if you have a few nights in Madrid, it's worh consideration.

“An experience that we will long cherish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

This was one of the few tours that we booked on our recent trip to Madrid and we are very glad we chose this one. The resturant just oozes charm and history. Yes there several different floors and a wine cellar
which means walking up stairs but they are not unreasonable. The food was very good. There were a total of 6 courses with enough time in between courses to not get over full. The house wine was very good. We actually had 2 extra bottles. And the desert was heavenly, several different items. The service very attentive but not intrusive. But what put the topping on this experience was meeting Johanna. She was informative, telling both history and interesting antidodes about the resturant. At the end of her talk she gave us each a handmade Sangria pitcher that is simply beautiful. This made the experience a truly memorable one. Would definately recommend!

“This restaurant is overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

I've had much much better cochinillo! El Botin's will taste great to one who has not eaten this from the Latin countries and the Philippines.
Based on an earlier review, we chose to sit downstairs, and indeed the atmosphere is jovial , but if you have asthma, the musty air will not be good fir you.
I wouldn't go back.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

Lovely traditional cooked meals, making a nice change from tapas. We had the almond chicken and the garlic fried prawns which were both delicious, and a lovely cake for dessert. Food and drink were both reasonably priced for the quality. We also received free drinks from the waiter who was very attentive during our visit. Really enjoyable meal. We walked in and got a table but they only keep a small area free for walk ins so I would recommend booking.
