We live in Marbella and went to Madrid by the fast Train. What a wonderful way to travel. The 1st class coach was very nice and the food was OK. The best part was the views out of the window. So much nicer than flying.
We booked 2 nights at the Melia Fenix, on their red level. We were taken to our own reception on the 7th floor to check in and the first room we were shown had the smell that someone had been smoking, so the lady took us to another room which was lovely. It was large, with a crown over the bed, and the red level gives you free Internet, and your own private lounge, with free drinks and food all day and evening. We choose to spend our cocktail hour in the Martini bar, which again was very classy. Sadly the food in the resturant was very very poor. The wating staff were very nice and trying very hard to hide their embrassment at the poor skills of the chef. The menu sounded good but the chef was clearly not up to making it, to a good standard. I will seek out another Melia red level hotel in the future as it was all very top notch.
