Stayed 5 nights at this excellent hotel at the end of October. We could not have asked for a better stay. When we first pulled up I was a little worried because of some work that was going on in front of the hotel. It turned out that trees and landscaping work was in progress. It was very minimal and done before we left. The trees look good too. When we went to check in the reception was very friendly and welcoming. We were told they had a surprise for us and upgraded us to a suite for the whole visit. The suite was on the 4th floor and was fabulous. Bathroom was large and modern. The toiletries provided were above and beyond. All kids of little things I had forgotten, nail polish remover, make up pads, you name it, it was there and replenished every day. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub. There was a separate sitting room which worked out great as my husband was working 2 of the days and wanted to turn in early, so I could stay up and read, etc. The bedroom had three large windows with 4 Juliette balconies. The views of the pedestrian street in front of the hotel and on one side kept me entertained. The bed was huge and comfortable.
I am a light sleeper and was worried about noise from a few reviews and from my husbands experience last year at another hotel right on La Grand Via. No worries here. Each window had a double set of french windows that completely blocked out any noise. If that were not enough there were additional electric blinds that retracted completely. They silently came down and flipped to block out any possible noise and light. This came in very handy when we arrived exhausted after 16 hours of travel. The suite had a small refrigerator stocked with juice water and beer. There was also a box of delicious chocolates on the bed when we arrived.
The service at the hotel was excellent, friendly and warm. There was no communication problem whatsoever with my very limited Spanish as the staff spoke excellent English.
The hotel has a great restaurant for after shopping breaks, wine was good and prices reasonable. I always felt welcome.
The location of this hotel is near to perfect. It is just off of the main shopping boulevard and a large square so you have proximity without the noise and bustle. Ultra convenient to the metro but we never even used it, we walked everywhere. We were within walking distance of the Palace, the Prado, Retiro Park, Peurto del Sol, the Mercado San Miguel and so many cafes, tapas bars and restaurants we were at a loss to choose one. There was a small tapas place 3 doors down from the hotel that became my afternoon hang out. The small street the hotel is on has 10 or more cafes and restaurants and again, the hotel restaurant was excellent.
I can't think of a thing that this place lacks. We previously stayed at two hotels rated number 1 and 2. They were lovely but do not compare with the comfort, service an convenience of this hotel. This is our number one choice in Madrid and cannot wait to return. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for making this such a fabulous stay.
Room Tip: They don't tell you about the electric blinds. The controls are by the lights in the bedroom an...
