“Hidden Treasure in Central Madrid”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Lovely old world style hotel located in a tastefully restored 19th century building (see photo), on a quiet pedestrian-only plaza in central Madrid, only 100 meters from the busy Calle San Martin. Short walk to the Plaza Mayor, Puerto del Sol and many other major tourist attractions. Close to several Metro stations. Only 50 metres from an El Corte Inglés supermarket.

Rooms are not particularly large, but are beautifully maintained and have everything you need at your finger tips. Comfortable beds, efficient air-conditioning and flat screeen TV's. Excellent buffet breakfast with hot and cold selections, and freshly cooked egg dishes on request. Our group also had a fabulous 4 couse dinner with wine included in the hotel restaurant.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Reception staff were particularly helpful when one of our group had her credit cards stolen on the Madrid Metro.

The Palacio San Martin Hotel really is a hidden treasure in the very centre of Madrid. Highly recommended.

This hotel is in a great location for visiting all the city centre attractions of Madrid. Most of the sites are wihin walking distance and lots of cafes, bars & restaurants are less than 10 mins walk, as are many shops.

Room Tip: The room was large, inward facing overlooking the lobby, which might have been quieter, having said...

We stayed there at the final of April 2012 for three days.
The Hotel is very well located, near to the shopping center and historical streets.
Rooms are small, but very nice and clean.
The Breakfast food was excellent, the breakfast rooms space are small, we must wait until other people.
I recommend this hotel for excellent placement of location, rooms and food.

We loved our time here for 5 days despite rude and abrasive breakfast and bar staff - female only! Food is ok as is service. But this place is special because of its location - Sol, GRAN VIA, Latino, plaza mayor - all a stones throw and the whole city also totally accessible through a great local transport system! Hotel could do with a facelift!

We stayed here twice, and both times were perfect.

Upon arrival, long flights take their toll, and a gracious welcome, and a quick check-in and up to our room, lovely big room, quiet on the central space, sky lit and oh so quiet. Nice, comfortable beds, wonderul bathrooms, and nice period decor.

Great breakfast, lots to choose from, and the coffee is delicious.

Knowledgeable Front Desk staff, helpful, and they know Madrid.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: Inside quiet, outside views, you pick.

Fantastic location within short walking distance from shopping, Plaza Mayor, good restaurants, and public transportation. Situated on a quiet side plaza. Room was large with small sitting area, cleaned to perfection every day, and had plenty of hot water. Staff was very helpful and spoke English well enough to get by. Great breakfast with vast array of continental as well as hot foods and pastries. We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening and were served one of the best meals of our vacation. Nice view of the inside lobby in a courtyard room. I can't think of anything I didn't like.

What is really great about this hotel is that there is no street noise at all. Set on a quiet square, there is no significant thorough traffic possible so it is quiet. And you can walk to most anywhere in central Madrid from this hotel-we never even used public transit. Around the corner from this hotel is a true neighborhhod joint with formica tables and teriffic tapas where the locals seem to go for a drink and a bite on the way home. The hotel itself is very well managed-clean,light, well appointed, excellent breakfast buffet, comfortable spacious room with balcony view over the roofs of Madrid. The major department store (with basement supermarket for room picnics) is two short blocks away. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: High floor with balcony for views
