We were supposed to stay here at the beginning of our Spain trip. Taxi driver could only get us close. We had to walk a ways and ask for directions, then cross over some less than attractive front entry with homeless and dog poop.

But we stayed upbeat...until they were unable to get us a room due to water damage. But they found us another hotel, honored their price to us and the hotel paid the difference at the new hotel. In the end we were happy with our new place and preferred the other, cleaner location.

I don't know if our impression would have been better if we had stayed here or not, but our first impression did not match up to others reviews of this hotel.

My Wife and I stayed in this lovely hotel for 5 nights from 4th October .It is centrally placed only a few minutes walk from the centre of the city in a quiet plaza . Check-in was a breeze and the room on the 5th floor had a balcony with a good view over the city .The room was to a very high standard with air-con ,a great shower and a very comfortable bed .The room was very clean and kept to a very high standard throughout our stay .The buffet breakfast was outstanding with every sort of cold meats ,cheese ,pastries and fresh fruit you could want with eggs ,bacon etc available on request. The hotel has an old world charm and is ideal as a base to visit this most beautiful city .Also in the plaza is a bar called The Urban Cafe ,very modern and they mix a mean cocktail .There are many fine restuarants within a few minutes walk but one I would highly recommend is Sobrino De Botin ,the oldest in the world ( 1725 ) .It appears in all the guide books and unlike so many tourist attractions the food will not disappoint ,the speciality , the suckling pig is outstanding .Reservations a few days in advance essential. Getting from Madrid airport is a 15 min taxi ride at about 25-30 euros .There is nothing about this hotel not to like ,highly recommended.

Highly recommended. it's located in a very good and calm area, walking distance to many places of interest.

It's considered as a 4* hotel, not 3 1/2.

This Hotel is centrally located and is good for most amenities however, it is in the scruffier part of Madrid and you need to be aware that homeless/beggers in the small square outside and the area generally. ( Also pick pockets 'track' you in Gran Via)

Avoid being allocated a ground floor room at this Hotel as they are actually below ground level and have 'false' windows.
I also would not rate it as a 4 star Hotel, although its not bad for a 2+.
