“Service good, some upgrades needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Stayed a few times in this hotel recently. The rooms are very fine although it can be a bit noisy when you keep the windows open. Check-in and concierge were all friendly and willing to help, which is not always the case in Spanish hotels. The club lounge is a bit small but serves the purpose for a drink and for breakfast. The bar area is old fashioned but has some character. Especially the gym would benefit from an upgrade whilst also some of the other parts (eg restaurant) needs some new ideas.

Room Tip: if you are sensitive to noise ask for a room away from the street side

“Good hotel, could be easily improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

From my bedroom (number 422) I could hear outside traffic noise until 11:00 pm and the next morning from 06:00 am (I did not need to use my alarm clock to wake up). My bed was noisy when I moved (it reminded me a youth hostel bed in my student years). The gym is open 24 hours a day. There are 2 treadmills in English for a speed indicator in miles and only one in Spanish for kilometres. I have seen better and more modern equipment in other hotels. Quite honestly, given the luxury brand, I think the management could improve the rooms (noise insulating windows) and the gym (more modern equipment) wihout much of an effort. As for the rest nothing to complain about. The staff is very friendly and efficient, front desk provides fast check-in and check-out, room service is very good, concierge also good. The restaurant offers an excellent breakfast buffet that can be complemented with side orders à la carte without extra-cost. The gym is free for hotels guests. Despite the noise my bedroom was very clean and comfortable. I do not think that you can find a better hotel in Madrid for a similar cost. Because of the service, if I visit Madrid again, I will likely return to this hotel. I will insist in a different room to the back side of the building, preferably on a higher floor.

“Definitely a 5 star hotel and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

This is my second day at Intercontinental Madrid.
- at the door, the doorman was smiling and very helpful
- the receptionist was very welcoming and explained everything in details. She also called the manager on duty to welcome us who advised us to try their sunday brunch offered in the lobby restaurant
- the buffet was an excellent choice. It has a WOW variety with a tasty spanish touch ( try the paella and the entrecote) . The chefs and the waiters were very welcoming and took very good care of us
- the concierge explained in details for us how to get to the city center and what to visit.
- the room offered (404), its a junor suite that very spacious and clean. It has very good TV channels variety too

In brief it is the best choice you can have in Madrid :)

“Doesn't quite hit the mark...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

It's an intercontinental but it just doesn't feel right. As expected the hotel has a plush lobby area which suggests the hotel is as you'd expect of the brand.

However the hotel is quite limited in its facilities. There is a bar which leads to the hotels only restaurant. Yep that's right just the one. So we ventured in expecting an exhaustive menu only to be presented with a very limited selection. Having said that the recommend sea bream was without a doubt excellent albeit pricy.

The dessert menu was good however the quality of the desserts was at best average.

For breakfast the bar/ restaurant area is used and a minimal buffet is served. The food again is average quality and unfortunately on the first morning also barely heated up which didnt improve much for the rest of the week. Slightly warm scrambled eggs really don't taste great. And at euros 35 for a buffet breakfast it's really not very good value.

If you like a good well equipped gym then again this is not the place for you. A small room with a few treadmills and bikes and a few upper body machines and some free weights. No rowing machine or even weight machines to work legs/lower body.

The rooms are large and well equipped with everything you are likely to need. Iron, tea making etc and beds are comfortable as usual.

Wifi was free as I am a priority club member but check charges up front if you're not. I would imagine they are extremely high.

To summarise. Whilst this is a nice hotel I don't think it is really up to the Intercontinental standard I have previously experience in cities such as Istanbul and Doha. Location is close enough to the main areas of the city to walk to or a short hop on a bus/taxi.

“A magnificent hotel in Madrid, perfect for business or tourism.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

The Madrid Intercontinental Hotel is a luxurious and comfortable place to stay in a beautiful city. The rooms are spacious and modern with all the amenities. The staff is very helpful and accomodating. I visiter during a strike and got excellent help with dealing with any disruption. You are well located to visit the Prado or the Palace.
