“Great Conference Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

The conference for 300 people. Our group was promptly registered. Rooms were good quality clean, good sized bathroom. Conference breakfasts and lunches were well organised, and food tasty. Main conference room was well arranged with good vision and absence of pillars

Room Tip: Good choice for a large business conference. Has swimming pool and gym

This was a very nice hotel. Not particularly close to the city center, but was easy enough to catch the metro and/or buses/taxis into town. Rooms were very comfortable, bed was comfy, and loved the pillow menu. Very quiet in room. Breakfast was very good with made to order eggs available. Concierge was less than helpful at times, but luckily the internet was really good so just went back to room and looked up what I needed.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

A week in this hotel for business off season was a welcome break from the UK. Due to the amount of equipment I was taking I decided to drive a small transit van from Santander to Madrid. Upon arrival the first thing I encountered was the lack of parking, the hotel had no car park that the van could be parked in. It seems most carparks in Madrid are underground and have a 1.8m height restriction, I did however find one just behind the hotel that I could squeeze the van into.

The staff at reception were extremely helpful and very friendly. My room was on the 14th floor and overlooked the hotel, the window opened very wide and had a low sill so not ideal for kids. The room was well equipped and had the best bathroom I have seen in a long time at a mid range hotel.

There are quite a few restaurants on site service a wide range of cuisine, the best one was the paella restaurant next door. For just €40 we had a freshly made seafood paella fit for 4 people, the best I have ever had!

The bed wasn't the most comfortable I have ever slept in as it was two singles pushed together but it was good. The TV reception was pretty poor and had a very poor range of international channels. If it wasn't for national geographic my time in the room would have been pretty boring. the internet was free for 24 hours and pretty mediocre, the premium service was costly and no better.

Breakfast was very enjoyable with an omelette station cooking them fresh right in front of you. My stay was very good but I got food poisoning on my second night so spent the rest of the time admiring the well equipped bathroom. Some of the other crew who all had fantastic omelettes that day all suffered from similar problems. We didn't complain as we all knew that eating slightly undercooked eggs in Spain is a no-no.

Each floor of the hotel had its own ice machine but I wouldn't recommend using it as they don't appear to be cleaned and serviced regularly, I heard three separate complaints from different machines all had mould on the ice.

The hotel is typical inner city Spain, lots of boutique style shops and café's and well within walking distance of the town centre.

I was quite surprised at how inexpensive the room was considering the surroundings. The business facilities were top class and the auditorium was massive, it looked like it was lifted straight from a cinema. As part of my job there I had to install a wireless network, we had a 1GB line ordered in but trying to get the on site IT team to allow us access to the comms room was next to impossible. They also don't work past 3pm, or weekends, or early mornings or have phone numbers!

The conference staff and project team were the best in the business, if we needed something it was delivered without question, they seem to conduct business like we do. No problems, just challenges and don't worry about things going wrong, just get them fixed and worry about who/how later on.

This is a classical hotel that managed to keep it's style and quality in the centre of Madrid while keeping affordable prices!
The rooms are ok, could be bigger for a 4 star, but all is there like in a 5 star. in general the hotel is clean and tidy ... even when 3 conferences are going on at the same time!
the food in the restaurant is nothing really special but the breakfast is great! pitty that fresh bread was rarely available. The 2 bars are great and have a nice environment.

The only downside is that some of the personal in the reception really struggle with the english... one wouldn't expect that in a 4star hotel that holds international conferences ...

Room Tip: the rooms in the top of the building have a great view !

Dear Afonso_TheHague,

First of all, we would like to say thank you for your time and your very kind comments about our facilities and services.

As you say, we are a very huge hotel in which several conferences can take place at the same time, but we are always take care in keeping the quality of service at the level of our Guest´s expectations and always giving a personalized treatment to all of them, similar to a boutique 5 star hotel.

We are happy to check that you enjoyed your last visit in Melia Castilla hotel.

We hope to see you in Madrid very soon.

I stayed in the hotel for a week for a conference and had my wife and the baby with me. I had offered a bigger room to have more space for the baby's bed for just 20€ more per day! The hotel is a famous high level in Madrid, with many good restaurants in the surroundings. The service is excellent, the experience in the managing is evident, thus no doubt for organizing a work event. There is lot of space wherever, the conference rooms are comfortable and there are no connectivity issues; also, one big point, the same code can be uses to connect up to 5 devices, something unusual.
The breakfast is fantastic, you can find everything you need, but leave some room for the tapas in the center! Maybe is not the best solution for tourists because of the distance from the city center, but absolutely great value.

I stayed few days at Melia Castilla Hotel. Room are spacious and well organized.
Due to lack of time, I could not enjoy the swimming pool, but several trees protect you from the sun and you can taste a fine coffee along the pool. Meals (breakfast, dinner) are delicious. The hotel is close to the Cuzco Metro station, which line is direct to the city center. I recommend this hotel.
