“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Stayed with 5 friends on a sightseeing visit to Madrid, the hotel is much bigger than any we have used before but very clean and comfortable. The walls seem to be a bit thin so can hear everything going on next door :) Wasnt really a problem. The breakfast was buffet style hot and cold and tea, coffee and juices for 8 Euros was well worth it. Short bus ride into the centre, would definately stay again.

“ok I guess”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed here for two nights on a badly organised trip by Travel Republic (two nights B&B but flight so early on return that we missed the second breakfast). Room was small but adequate with a view of the rooms opposite. Breakfast was fine but with warm not hot drinks. Had a few drinks in the bar on both evenings and the barman was exceptionally pleasant. It is situated to the South of the city just south of the waterway, which made it quite a trek into the centre of town, would recommend that people with mobility difficulties use public transport or find somewhere nearer. Reception staff were helpful. Biggest complaint for a four star hotel would be the lack of hot drink facilities in room, and meagre extras in bathroom other than a small tube of shampoo and one of shower gel.

Room Tip: Ours was small don't know about other rooms

“Good if on a budget”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

We had 2 adjoining rooms for £66 and the facilities for that price were ok but I would not rate it a 4 star hotel. The beds were comfortable but there was only a sheet on them. We found some duvets in the cupboard but there were no covers on them and during our 4 day stay no covers were ever put on when the room was cleaned which i thought strange. We had a room at the front of the hotel and it was very noisy from the traffic below. You pay extra for wifi and there was no key for the safe so presumably you pay extra for this too. We did not pay for breakfast so can't comment on the quality of that. Staff were helpful, and most spoke some english, but the older staff were not friendly or welcoming and were sometimes rude, finishing their conversations whilst you waited to speak to them. They will hold your bags for you once you check out if you have a late flight which was useful.

In terms of location, there is a Lidl shop opposite for supplies and a lovely bakery a few doors down for breakfast pastries. There is a great park behind to stroll around and lots of bars in the immediate area.

The taxi fare from the airport to hotel Praga was 38 euros. 30 euros plus 5.50 airport supplement and 3 euros Sunday evening supplement. The tube to the airport takes an hour and cost 5 euros each, 2 euros for the fare plus 3 euro supplement. Most tube journeys cost between 1 and 2 euros or you can buy a 10 trip card for 12.20 euros.( you can use this to get to the airport and just buy a 3 euro supplement card) There is also a bus that stops right outside hotel to the plaza mayor but we didn't take this preferring to walk.

We did a day trip to Toledo which I would highly recommend. From the hotel walk 10 mins to plaza Eliptica and get the ALSA coach service to Toledo (directo). Cost 9 euros return and took 45 mins ( not 1.5 hours as the tourist info told us). The service runs every half hour from 6.30 am to 10 pm. The bus drops you just outside the city walls so you can walk up to the centre. It is lovely to walk around and there is a stunning cathedral to see - cost 11 euros to get in and go up the bell tower ( children aged 12 and under are free). To get the train would take 30 mins on underground to station then half an hour on train then a bus journey and costs 24 euros return.

Other money saving tips would include visit the museums in the evening as they are free during the week. Museo del Prado is free from 6-8 pm and Centro de Arte Reina Sofia from 7-9 pm. The palace is free to EU residents (show passport) on Wednesday 3-6 pm and there is a changing of the guard ceremony at the palace from 11-2pm each Wednesday ( we saw it at 11.30).

Madrid is a great city with lots to see and do and hotel praga is a good base, although a little way out from the centre, but if you are not on a budget I would look elsewhere.

“Not bad, not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

This was the first hotel I stayed at on my tour for one night only.

The rooms were pretty small. Just large enough to open my suitcase.
The reception spoke pretty good English.
The dinner and breakfast buffets were OK. Not fantastic.
Safe hire not included.

The walls were so thin that I could hear the phone vibrating in the next room.

Costs a 35 euro cab ride from Barajas airport.

I only had to stay there for one night so I can't really comment too much

“Great Budget Hotel a little out of the way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

I visited Madrid on my own for two nights and loved this hotel although it is just a little off the beaten path. It is located in a residential area, about 10-12 minutes walk from the closest train station. It is about a 25-30 minute uphill walk to the Plaza Real and the Palace, which takes you over a beautiful bridge and through an arch, so I would recommend you do that once during your stay. The rooms are small and have quite a bit of noise due to thin walls, but otherwise, it is very comfortable. I can't say enough good things about the breakfast!! Delicious!
