“Very good hotel in a charming city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

This hotel is situated close to the center of Madrid. You can walk to the Plaza Real in twenty five minutes through a charming area or you can take bus line 23 which leaves you there in ten minutes. I recommend the walking, as you can see this part of town and it’s a pleasant experience. From there you can walk to the Puerta del Sol as well as all the important points in the city. The breakfast in the hotel is excellent, and it is normally included with the room.

“Dreadful service and poor quality food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Like many before us, we too travelled on a Cosmos tour but our stay extended to 4 nights. Our overriding memories are of the very poor quality food associated with the tour group (banquet) dining room and the abysmal service, bordering on downright RUDE. After our tour had finished we paid for an extra day as individual travellers (very expensive I might add) before flying to Toulouse. The main dining room refused to serve us and when we pointed out the problem to the reception, ie we were not with a tour AND we had paid for the extra day ourselves, they were just not interested. They said it was the tour group dining room or nothing.
To add to this insult, the day before was my partner's 60th birthday, hence this very expensive trip to Europe. For this special occasion I had bought a bottle of champagne. I checked the mini-bar to find that, most unusually for even the most basic hotel, there was neither wine nor champagne glasses. I went to the bar and pointed out this omission and politely requested two champagne glasses, I was refused. The reception were equally as blunt and non receptive. Whatever happened to customer service ? They just did not care.
The rooms were clean but very much on the small side, and given the cost that we had paid, were very poor value for money. Wifi was at a cost, can you believe that in this day and age ????
We are seasoned travellers and quite capable of roughing it, we do not like to make a fuss and are very understanding when things go wrong, that's life. But I have to say that hell will freeze over before I go back to this hotel or recommend it to any other traveller who just wants to be treated respectfully and fairly.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere !!!

“Very busy 3 star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Stayed at this hotel a total of 6 nights in May 2012. We were meeting up with a Cosmo tour group for Spain , Portugal. and Morocco. Our first 4 nights were spent in a dreary room on the 1st floor overlooking another building. We were kept a wake several nights when a group of young people ran up and down the hallways and slammed doors until the wee hours. Many groups stay at this budget hotel.

We had booked and paid for breakfast ahead of time and it was very good in the main dining room. Once we joined our tour groupo breakfast was now in a banquet rooms and was inferior to what we had experienced.

Wifi is not free and you have to get a new code every 24hrs 4 euros what a pain! Front desk was less than helpful and when we inquired how to get to the Zoo we were told to take a taxi.

When we returned from our tour we spent one more night here and it was on the 5th floor, the room was on the corner and sunlit. What a difference from that first room which was dark and dreary.

The hotel is reasonably convenient and the 23 bus will take you to Plaza Mayor for 1.50 euro. The Metro is also walking distance and we had no trouble venturing to Toledo on the Metro and train. Museums and other main sights are accessible by metro and bus 20-30min. There are several restaurants in the area watch out for the bread and other offerings olaced on the table they are not free!
A solid three star hotel and reasonable for the capital City!

Room Tip: Don't accept a room on the first floor overlooking the other building if you can get another roo...

“Wifi is not free”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

The hotel is patronized by many tour groups so at times it can be quite noisy, the front desk busy and the small lobby congested with guests and their luggage.
It is just out of the city centre. However bus to Plaza Mayor is at the door. Metro station is about 5 to10 minutes away. Be very vigilant however. There are many pickpockets in buses, metros and all crowded places in Madrid and other big cities. Local people warned us many times that their pickpockets are among the best of the best (in their profession). We were almost robbed when in a queue going through the turnstide of a metro station.
There are many shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bars and ATM machines on the street in front of the hotel. We were told that some of the ATM machines near the hotel were tempered with and consequently some travellers had their bank accounts raided recently. So as a precaution use those machines that are further away from the hotel.
The hotel is dated. There is no outstanding features to say about the hotel. Room conditions and services are just average, acceptable.
What we don't like is that it charges for the wifi service. These days we can get such service for free in many bars, restaurants and public places. Hope that some future reviewers will report that the hotel follows the practice of their competitors and makes such service free for the convenience of their guests.

“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

I stayed here at the beginning and end of a Cosmos tour. The hotel is in a residential neighborhood, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. It's an easy bus ride to the Plaza Mayor and an easy walk to/from the bus stop for downtown and Prado museum. There is a market almost next door that sells food, water and alcohol. Previous reviews complained about the staff; we found them to be very friendly and helpful. The hotel is used by various tour groups so the lobby does get crowded. WiFi is expensive 4 euros a day. The breakfast buffet was good. Rooms are a bit small but clean and adequate. We had one with a small balcony on the 7th floor.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies...
