Day recepction staff very professional. Nice but small lobby.

The main issue with the bedroom was that despite the temperature outside being 14 degrees, the temperature inside the room was 22 degrees. Air conditioning did not work properly.

The bed was quite small, one of the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel room. However the room was also quite small so a bigger bed wouldn't have fitted into the room probably.

The main complaint I have about the hotel is as follows. We had a 6:30am flight and I had booked an airport minibus to pick us up (Aerocity, which I highly recommend and have used many times before), we checked out at 3:50 as the bus was picking us up at 4am and the hotel recepcionist kept asking me what was I going to do if they didn't turn up and that maybe I should go with the taxi driver waiting also in rececption (who I suspect was a friend of his). I found this very unprofessional and didn't expect it from the Hesperia group.

Apart from that I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I'm staying in Madrid, in Hotel Emperatriz (Hesperia group) since February (normally, 2 a 3 nights per week).
It's an old building that have been converted to an hotel. it has a retro design, very cosy, very nice.
The hotel have 21 rooms per floor. There are rooms bigger than other and some facing the street and others facing a backyard. The interior rooms are more quite. I prefered rooms facing the street in the 7th floor.
Very nice breakfast, wi fi internet free and good amenities for Hesperia|one (frequent) clients.

This is a 4 star hotel in the embassy/upmarket shopping district of Madrid. its quiet there at night which is important given the late night traffic noise you can get elsewhere in Madrid.

Its easy to get here form the metro with the nearest station just 4 or 5 minutes walks form the hotel.

Rooms are a decent size and the hotel also offers free wi-fi which is great.

Breakfast is expensive so if you're not a big breakfast person you may prefer to take breakfast elsewhere.

I got a double room for 60 euro which was a real bargain.

Only drawback is that its a bit of a walk to the central tourist area from here.

“doubts about the Emperatriz”

Hotel Emperatriz

Jul 31, 2007

This is not a bad hotel -- but for the price it's not a good hotel: it has deteriorated since we last stayed there five years ago. This time we had air conditioning problems in our room; the door card did not work properly day after day; the hall carpets are worn and a little dirty, and the room itself was a bit worn and damaged in places. On the other hand, the location is convenient, the breakfast is good (but expensive), and the staff are generally quite welcoming. Word has it that the hotel is being rented to the Hesperia chain -- which has a five-star establishment across the street. They need to take a close look at the Emperatriz -- and bring it up to standard!

“Loved the room and the hotel staff”

Hotel Emperatriz

Jul 26, 2007

At the begining was a little worried about going there because of some stories I have heard about the hotel from friends that stayed there before but that was before Hesperia took over the hotel.

The room we got was GREAT (an we were 3 people staying there). Even the Extra Bed was fabulous. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was one of the best I ever had in spain.

As it was a triple room with extra bed the hotel staff placed every day extra toiletries (enough for even 5 People) and made sure that extra towels for the 3rd person were there.

The hotel bathroom had a bidet, which I personally find very useful.

The view we got was a little nice courtyard, the AC was working perfectly and the location of the hotel is fantastic! only 3 minutes walk to the metro station and honestly...even if your hotel is at the "Puerta del Sol" you need to take the underground to move. Taxis are cheap but the traffict in the city is horrible!
