“Exceeded my expectations - very nice hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2009

We stayed at this hotel for three nights based primarily on the positive reviews I read. The hotel was extremely clean and very nice inside. The room was a decent size, clean, and had a very nice bathroom. The electric blinds provided for a very dark room for sleeping and blocked out a good amount of outside street noise. We were on the 6th floor on the side so noise wasn't bad at all. It is a fairly busy street at night so I imagine the street side would be noisier. The rooftop balcony is a very nice touch to this hotel as well. The location was good...close to many sites and with the metro a block away. Complimentary shuttle service from airport to the hotel was a nice bonus. Breakfast was decent but not the best I've had.

The Atlantico Madrid is in the most perfect location: ATMs, shopping, supermercado's, night-life and everything you could wish for is on your door-step. It is a pleasant walking distance to the Thyssen, the Prado and a zillion great tapas bars. The room we had was perfect, and we had a gorgeous Juliet style balcony over-looking the (not too loud) night action outside, and really, we just could not have been happier. This is a great hotel; a tad Laura Ashley style twee I suppose, in terms of decor, but aside from that minor whinge, it's impossible to fault it over-all. Professional and helpfull staff. Cheap cafe across the road if you're like us, and just want to grap a coffee, minus the big brekkie, in the a.m. Great view from the roof-top terrace for some happy snaps as well.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2009

My wife and I just returned from a 9 day trip throughout Spain, traveling to Madrid, Costa Del Sol, and Barcelona. Of all the places we stayed at during our trip, the Best Western Atlantico was by far the best!

I will begin with the only negative part of our hotel stay...the shuttle service from the airport. After arriving at the airport, we easily located the area where the shuttle service originates from, largely due to having read earlier reviews / forums, and got to the departure spot around 10:30 to wait for the 11:00 AM shuttle. Unfortunately, we were waiting for a while, as the shuttle didn't arrive until after 11:30 --- we were just about to get a taxi, when I spoke to some other tourists who had called the hotel and were told that the shuttle driver was on his way. Possibly it was traffic, possibly just a bad day, not sure, but if you've got a cell phone that will work on the trip, keep the hotels number handy so that you can check up on the shuttle, in case it isn't on time.

While the stay began with a little bit of a snag, due to the delay, the hotel room itself more than made up for that inconvenience (besides, it is one of the only hotels in the Gran Via area that offers free airport pickup - so, you can't be too upset if it's a few minutes late). As almost everyone else has mentioned, the hotel is in an absolutely fantastic location on Gran Via. If you're trying to decide which part of town to stay at in Madrid, I'd highly encourage Gran Via --- tons of shops, restaurants, and great historical sights are located on Gran Via or within an easy 5 minute walk of it.

We received a room on the 7th floor, down a side street, which was much quieter (and nicer, in my opinion) than being directly on Gran Via. Our room was extremely clean, very well decorated, large enough for the two of us, and even featured a great balcony that had a nice view of a section of Madrid.

The bathroom was also well above average, with two sinks and a large tub/shower that had a great amount of pressure (wish my shower at home had that much pressure!).

The breakfast was very good, especially for the price, and there's a mini-fridge in your room which is large enough to allow you to put some of your own drinks in if you like.

As for the staff, they were very friendly and accommodating.

Overall, it was an excellent hotel stay. To us, it was comparable (but actually probably a little nicer) to our stays at Loews brand hotels in the US. We honestly couldn't have asked for a better place to begin our trip (we simply wished we had ended our trip in Madrid, at the Best Western Atlantico, as all of the other hotels were downhill compared to it!).

I have stayed at hotels like the Palace, the Ritz or some Room Mates in Madrid but this is the one I'll return to next time. I had a Deluxe Room which was beautiful, absolutely clean, with a quite large bathroom and a little balcony.

Location is perfect at Gran Via, with a tube stop and the main shopping area very close. However Gran Via is loud (and the walls in the hotel as thin as usual in Spain), so if you have a light sleep you better bring earplugs.

The little rooftop bar is a nice place indeed. Breakfast is good, but nothing really special.

Very friendly and helpful staff, fast and efficient check in/check out. When I told them about my mini bar consumption they said 'thanks for being honest' but didn't even charge it.

Services at the hotel are somewhat limited; there is no restaurant (except for the beautiful breakfast room) and no room service; but that shouldn't matter with all the shops and restaurants in the area.

My wife loved it. I really really liked it. Great value, polite staff (Spaniards are so polite). On the Gran Via--ask for a room with a view. We did and got a huge room. Bath slippers, robes, safe, lovely bathroom, bed was 2 beds put together. Breakfast was grand. Make sure it is included. The coffee machines were superb, as many cappucinos, espressos for breakfast you can have and all at a push of a button. As much cava as you want. Hot foods are ok--scrambled eggs always look like from a can of fake eggs but that was universal in Europe, but great selection of cold, hot foods.

Stayed here for 4 nights in early June...This is a very nice and clean hotel in a great location on the Gran Via, within a 10-15 minute walk to most of the sites of interest in downtown Madrid. The staff was very helpful and professional and it was a very comfortable stay. We had the basic double room and it was a bit on the small side, but that is the only complaint I can make. The breakfast was very good, but there is no need to book that ahead...you can aways check it out when you get there. We had requested a quiet room and they did give us something a few floors up around the side so that the noise from the busy Gran Via was somewhat muted...and I'm glad we did. We booked on Expedia and got something like 40% off the listed rate because we stayed 4 nights...paid about $120 a night, which I think is fine for a nice 4 star hotel in a great location in Madrid.

Just back from the highly rated Atlantico on Granvia in Madrid. The location is superb, right in the middle of the action on Granvia, close to several Metro Stops, shopping and restaurants. Prado is a bit of a walk, but a pleasant one. The hotel staff was very efficient and attendant to our needs. We recommend an interior room owing to the noise on the street at night. Of course, that doesn't provide much of a view. But the ninth floor outdoor has a lovely view and atmosphere. We highly recommend the breakfast; at nine euros it is a bargain, and the staff at breakfast was the best on the trip. The rooms are clean, if modest in size and the bathrooms are quite nice. The hotel features the kind of amenities one seldom sees in Eurpoean hotels with wireless internet, appointed bathrooms, plenty of maps, and a very nice turn down service. There is a reason this hotel has such a high ranking, one that is well-deserved.
