“Not one of my favorites. Poor wi-fi make unacceptable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

The only reason to use this hotel is the IFEMA conference hall is nearby. It is very convenient.
Staff is courteous and friendly -- no issue with this or the restaurant which is good.

Key issues is sleep quality and this may be a personal one. The bed quality is poor and is like sleeping on rocks. You might think that there is no mattress and you are sleeping on box springs only.

But for a business professional the WiFi is the key downgrade. It is so slow with bandwidth where you cannot do a Skype call or even connect with VPN.

Room Tip: Vie over the pool is best. So is high floor.

The best reason to stay at this hotel is IFEMA, the Madrid Fair Centre which is located almost next door. The next best reason is Madrid International Airport, a short (free) shuttle ride away. The hotel is also located next to a Metro station, but to get to central Madrid you need to change trains at least twice. The service during our stay was indifferent - the staff seem to know that they'll get plenty of conference and business guests anyway, without pampering tourists like us. The hotel has plenty of conference space, teeming with activity during week days.
We came by car, but even though the hotel is right by the freeways it was hard to find. The design of the building is inward looking, and the main entrance is in a small alley. They could have bigger signs facing the main roads.
The swimming pool area looks nice, but the doors to it were locked because of the season - a disappointment since it would have been nice to be able to have a drink by the pool, even if it's too cold to swim.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms are facing the pool, even numbered the (quiet) street.

The biggest plus about this hotel is the proximity to the airport. Very timely as this was our last stop on a guided tour. There's a regular shuttle that takes perhaps 10 minutes and if you can't catch a shuttle, the metro is only one stop from the International terminal and it's perhaps a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

This is a nice new hotel, large lobby, but small elevators. The rooms are spacious and the beds are large. The washroom is large and clean and well fitted. There's even extra wardrobe and shelf space. Our room overlooked the pool area which was very nice, almost worthy of a resort even though the hotel is in an industrial/retail area.

Nearby, only a 10 minute walk is the El Corte Ingles, for those last minute shoppers, and the street does have a few restaurants and bars, although it's not what would be considered a pedestrian haven.

The lobby has a lounge and the bartenders speak english fluently. It's comfortable, but most of it faces the lobby, so it's not exactly cozy. The breakfast/buffet room is just behind, and although it would seem cramped, it's actually very spacious. The breakfast is well supplied and perhaps caters more to North American tastes, although bacon and eggs is not available. One minus to the hotel is the entrance. It's a complicated little street that looks like a back alley and there's very little room to manouvre unless you're walking.

While the proximity to the airport and shopping is good, it's many, many stops from downtown on the subway, so it's really not convenient for anything touristy. Still, it's a big, clean, bright hotel and I appreciated the location, given we were leaving the next day.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back overlooking the pool are the best view.

I stayed again at this hotel after 7 years and it has been completely renovated. It's new and refreshed.
It's a classic Novotel with spacious rooms, good shower and flawless cleaning.
Rooms are reasonably quiet and the staff is very friendly.
The breakfast is very good and the food offering at the bar and restaurant is satsfactory as well.
The shuttle service to Barajas leaving every 30 minutes both ways is definetely a plus.
In short, it's a very decent hotel.
However, there is room to improve.
Wifi connection is free, but the service is very poor. It's OK if you only want to surf the web and check emails, but don't even try to make a video call using Skype.
Also, there is no in-house gym. It's true that they give you free access to an outastanding gym which is a 10-min away by walking, but in a cold and rainy winter night this walk is a killer.
Finally, bar and restaurant close at midnight, which is not very understandable in a city so famous for the late life as Madrid.
If you arrive after midnight eager for a bite, you'll need to go to the near McDonald's, which is 600m away and stays open until 3am.

Room Tip: The rooms with the view to the swimming pools are quieter.

I regularly stay at this hotel when coming to Madrid for business as it is conveniently located near their offices. Also a very good choice when passing through Madrid Barajas and need to stay overnight. The hotel has a reliable and complimentary shuttle bus service from the airport running every half hour or so.

The rooms are clean and serviced properly. Nothing to rave about, it just delivers what it promises. A good nights sleep in clean and functional rooms. The Hotel offers fast WiFi internet with a good cover all over the facility. Never had problem with connection. The breakfast is really worth it. It offers a nice variety of intercontinental taste with some Spanish offerings. The buffet table is nicely kept, always fresh. I think this hotel is great 4 star choice, no fuss and no extra mile, but reliable and always with the same standard service.

This is a very standard airport hotel, which is not a criticism. It is not easy to operate an airport hotel, and I don't envy the task. There's massive turnover of rooms, people arriving at weird times of the day etc. So the important thing is to do the basic things well.

This hotel manages to have clean and comfortable rooms. Not outstanding, not beautiful - but functional. So far so good.

I stayed for two nights whilst on a business project for a company based nearby. It was very convenient.

What was far from convenient was the disastrous Wi-Fi, which is nothing short of an embarrassment and a disgrace. I'd noted before I came that there had been a number of complaints about it on TripAdvisor, so I wasn't optimistic, but the company arranging the project had booked the hotel, so I had little choice but to pray all was well.

My prayers went unanswered.

The Wi-Fi for me was at least free, which as a basic need for business as important as water or light today, is important. It used a web login system which is quite usual in many hotels. I've no idea why hotels persist with it, frankly because it is not customer-centric at all, but most that do at least make it so that you don't have to login again every 20 minutes because you stopped using it to write a document or make a phone call. This drives you absolutely insane!

And, to top it all, at 1am, the wi-fi shut down completely and just stopped working. I have no idea why, and no-one working in the hotel could explain it, which was unsurprising since it was night time and no-one with any expertise was present. But, I had a business critical meeting the next day, and people to communicate with across the world. And I simply couldn't. So the hotel let me down completely and utterly.

I rose very early the next morning and the wi-fi was operating again, but slowly, and I was able to repair some but not all of the damage done by missing emails earlier in the night.

And here's the rub: There have been multiple complaints about wi-fi at this hotel on Tripadvisor. Each of them is followed by an identikit apology from the management promising to look into things and make them better. There is only one thing worse than terrible service, and that is terrible management pretending to solve terrible service but wilfully ignoring it.

It seems that is what is going on here, and if so, the management is actually letting down the brand and all of the rest of the staff that are doing their jobs to the best of their ability.

I can only say that if you want basics like wi-fi to work properly, heed my advice and stay somewhere else for the time being. Which is a shame, because there are probably 50 staff at this hotel who, unlike the management, don't deserve you ignoring them.

Dear s0s,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Novotel Madrid Campo De Las Naciones. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies.

The Wifi service that we provide is 100Mb and we know that there are problems with the connectivity. ACCOR, and particularly, Novotel Campo de las Naciones, are working to improve, at first, the coverage level and then, the compatibility with new operations systems.

We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.
