“A true delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014 via mobile

Busy place, limited tables so took us a couple of attempts to eat there. Reservation needed at weekends. Very friendly service, they took a lot of pride in our enjoyment of their food. They possibly took feedback from a previous review as raspberry gazpacho came as an amuse bouche (taste sensation). Absolutely delicious and great value. The foie and the squid ink croquettes were fantastic as was the black pudding and risotto. In fact everything!

“disappointing considering the glowing reviews”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

Good in parts but some fine ingredients were messed around with some combinations that didn't really work; though interesting to try once.
A lovely burrata cheese worked well with the honey, but the strong truffle flavouring became a little overwhelming after the first mouthful, the accompanying avocado tartar and tomato sorbet were both fine in themselves but none seemed to add anything by being put together. Something simpler would have worked better in my opinion. The raspberry gazpacho was good, and would have made an excellent pallet cleanser, but a large bowlful seemed a little too much and again the addition of a cheese ice cream didn't really improve it.
A boletus risotto was also overwhelmed by truffle flavouring (I had no clue what a boletus tastes like). Other mains included an excellent steak and a well received cod and langoustine dish.
Service was friendly, though being told at one point to hurry and finish our starter as our mains were waiting (especially as we'd waited a long time for that starter to arrive) was rather unprofessional.
Seemed to be mainly frequented by tourists which maybe meant it lost a little in atmosphere compered to a restaurant popular with locals.
Overall worth a try but I would stick to the simpler, less adventurous dishes. Good value considering the level of ambition.

“Amazing food, lively environment...just great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

The food, the wine, the waiters everything was amazing. Don't expect a super fancy place, it's simple but well decorated and everything is good, but the food...is stunning!
The Octopus, the Tuna Tartare, the Bull tail, the two layer chocolate cake..really everything is good!
Next time in Madrid you'll see me there for sure...

“Good food, awful unfriendly service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

Yes the food is actually very good, if poorly presented. But the service is awful and, worse, very unfriendly. They made us feel that we chose a bad day to drop in. Unwanted guests if you will! Never came unless called several times, never asked if we wanted coffee after the meal, and only got the bill a good 15 minutes after asking for it 3 times from 2 different waiters!!! Hardly the pleasant experience one is looking for and definitely takes away from the quality of the food.

“AMAZING NIGHT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

I had a group of 15 people and the food and service was amazing. The food was so creative and tasty and not over priced, also considering there were 15 of us we were made to feel so special. I highly recommend El Abrazo de Vergara
