“Great location, great price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Hostal la Macarena is a great family run hostal in the heart of Madrid. Rooms are compact but ideal for a city break - immaculately clean, with a daily maid service. This is a Hostal so don't expect 5 stars - but the staff do everything they can to make the Hostal the best it can be. As mentioned by others I have stayed in 4 star hotels with much poorer facilities.

Turn left and up the stairs - less 50 meters to the Plaza Major, or turn right to loads of Cafes and Bars at much better prices. 4D cafe down the road idea for breakfast.

Madrid id a city that comes to life at night - this is in the heart of the action. 50m down the road you find Calle Cava Baja great bars and night life on your doorstep.

Hostal staff have always been excellent - they are great with my very poor Spanish and are always helpful. Hostal is accessible through buzzers and is manned 24 hours a day so is really secure.

I have visited Madrid many times, every occasion the Macarena has been excellent.

Room Tip: The rooms on Calle Del Maestro Villa can be a little quieter than Cava de San Miguel. But to be hon...

This Hotel may only be 2 star but it has all the facilities of a 4 star! Perfect location right beside Plaza Mayor in the heart of Madrid. A great starting point to explore all that the city has to offer. The rooms were perfectly adequate for our needs and clean, with a lovely view of the bustling square below. Great value for money. We cannot recommend this Hotel enough!!

This Hotel was located on a very unique street and many attractions. It is half a block from the San Miguel Mercado where tapas are sold till 2:00am on weekends. Across the street is an archway leading to Plaza Mayor and to the south a short walk to a bubling Latino Barrio. The rooms are small but clean and very adequate for sleeping.Sounds of street life abound till the late hours of the night. So if you want peace and quiet find somewhere else but if you want a great locatio, clean rooms and helpful staff, this is the place!

Room Tip: Rooms off the street are quieter and some a little larger.

This hotel is close to the heart of Madrid, just a few minutes' walk from the Plaza del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and the Royal Palace. Rooms are small but comfortable and functional. Staff were friendly enough but not too much English was spoken. The woman who checked us in was helpful in directing us to a place for breakfast. LOTS of choices for meals and drinks in this area. Plenty of value for the small price.

Hostal la Macerena is located a few minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor just off Sol square in Madrid. A few minutes walk will take you from the quiet bustling streets of the old town to the busy main streets packed with all the big name stores. The Hostal la Macarena is a delightful old building with winding stairs taking us to our room on the 3rd floor. Room was small as European rooms are but totally ample for the three of us and a nice clean bathroom completed everything we could have wanted. Staff are friendly and helpful and nearby there are hundreds of places to choose to eat or simply sit in the sunshine and drink sangria! Room is nothing fancny but the addition of a balcony complete with old fashioned shutters was perfect, exactly what we were looking for to.
An excellent choice to explore Madrid, both new and old quarters of the city. On a Sunday a few minutes walk took us to the flea market which was a lovely place to pick up some souveniers and spend a few hours exploring.

I love this hotel and have stayed here multiple times. It's a smaller hotel, with smaller rooms (but very clean and comfortable) and all of the staff is wonderful and very helpful. It's located on a lively street in the heart of the city (if you don't like the noise, ask for a room on the side street) and the rooms have balconies, so it's great to look out over the city. I have recommended it to all of my friends and now everyone I know stays here and loves it. You can't go wrong with the price or the location.

Clean, affordable and right in the heart of Madrid. Walking distance to madrid's most famous tapas markets and streets. We were very happy with our accommodation choice. Will definitely stay again. Highly recommended.
