This is a budget-priced hotel, so I wasn't surprised to be allocated the smallest of rooms. However, it had what I wanted - a good bed, a perfectly adequate bathroom, a TV with access to the BBC. It also had the bonus of wi-fi access, which was extremely useful.

But the room was the only thing that reflected the budget status of the hotel. This was a hotel that obviously took a pride in itself. It was very clean and the entrance lobby was even quite classy.

I stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was excellent and was eaten in a pleasant, large dining room on the ground floor.

The location of the hotel was perfect - just a short walk to the Puerta del Sol and to two Metro stations (Sol and Tirso de Molina).

However, one of the most pleasing aspects of staying at the Persal was the friendliness of the staff. All of them were charming and helpful.

Next time I am in Madrid I will certainly make a point of returning here.

Good location, clean, good price, breakfast was fine, staff efficient, good shower. Some negatives- small rooms, can be noisy, poor quality bed, tv didn't work properly, aircon didn't seem to work. However, overall, good for the price.

I was given room 211, and i think it must of been a cleaning cupboard before adding a bed and table!!!!
The room was very very small, the width of the room was around 5ft 6. The room was near the lift which was very noisy during the night, plus the walls were very thin (i could hear a conversation word for word), and the worst part of the room was the people that owned a apartment opposite (it was a small courtyard that my room backed out onto) they decided to have a night of passion and did not bother shutting their french doors!!!! so what with the lift, people chatting in the next room and not forgetting the fire alarms going on and off and the night of passion, as you can imagine not alot of sleep was had.
On the up side of things, the staff were nice. They let me borrow a hair-dryer, gave me extra pillows for the bed.
Room was clean.
Breakfast was ok.
Very good location.
I must mention the restaurant next door to Persal, "GINGERS". It is fab, great food, good prices, the best meal i had throughout my stay in Madrid.

The hotel is just on the "Piatza Del angel" which is in the center of Madrid
The staff are nice freindly and very helpfull, each recomendation they gave us was great.
The room is small but very clean with AC and bath.
Breakfast is included but it's same every day and very basic
Bottom line it's a great place to stay for exploring Madrid.
We loved it

the rooms are very spartan, no furniture and just 2 small lamps above the beds...we had front rooms and they face the street/plaza making it very noisy at nite esp the weekend . breakfast was fair..croissants, toast and small danish and some canned fruit cocktail...and juice and coffee of course. there are many hostals in madrid and this seemed like the best..very hotel-ish, small lobby, front desk manned 24/7..one thing is no hairdryer...paid for 2 rooms about..price paid for 2 double rooms was total of 150 euros each nite so can't complain...

In August of 2009, my friend and I stayed at this hostal situated in the center of Madrid. It is very clean and has the basics. The breakfast is ok. There is no luxury but it is perfect for the price and location. The staff is very professional.

I Picked this Hostal after reading the reviews of other travellers. Last minute.com had a 4 star top of list, and it was cheaper, but the reviews were not good and the location seemed to be nothing as good as this one. We enjoyed our stay, the staff were brilliant and the location excellent. The rooms were basic, but we had a nice bathroom and our toileteries were replaced when we used them. The room was spotless, as was the rest of the hostal. We had breakfast once, and it was the usual continental breakfast, but if that was all you wanted it was fine, and you could have as many drinks as you wanted, which could be expensive elsewhere. We ate in the adjoining restaurant twice, and it was very reasonable and very nicely done up. If we were coming to Madrid again, we would definetely come back to Hostal Persal.
