“Clean hotel in good location for a great price”

The Arosa is very centrally located in Madrid, and an excellent value for a clean, modern hotel in such a location. Our price (prepaid at around $100/night) included the buffet/continental breakfast each morning. Fairly simple, but the food was decent and coffee plentiful.

Our only complaint was a very hard mattress, but I suppose that's to be expected in some places (and in fact, is preferred by some travellers). Our room faced a courtyard area, so we didn't have the noise issues of other reviewers. Overall, a nice place at a great price.

“Noise”

Best Western Hotel Arosa

Mar 13, 2008

Conveniently central and despite the following comments on noises was an adequate, comfortable short stay hotel. Reception staff efficient and requests for extra linen and a coffee maker were speedily responded to.. Two lifts, one tiny and claustrophobic. Breakfast very good, catering for international guests eg chopsticks available. Room small but adequate and clean - but,oh dear, it needed soundproofing, one could at times hear neighbours' voices ( the actual words, not just a background sound), and the neighbours shower sounded so loud we could have been in the same room. And "toilet noises" were clearly heard. The remedy was to have the TV on even though we would not have had it on normally. Although in a side street traffic noise from the nearby main road was audible in our room during the night.

“Good Value for Central Location”

Best Western Hotel Arosa

The Arosa is located a half block from Grand Via, a major thoroughfare and shopping street. It's convenient to two subway stations (Grand Via and Callao) and walking distance to Plaza Major and the Chueca barrio. There are many restaurants in the neighborhood, including a McDs and Starb. In fact, one of the benefits of staying in this area is that many of Madrid's sites are a walk or subway ride away. The hotel seems to have been recently refurbished. My double room came with a queen bed, was larger sized with tall ceilings and was nicely furnished. The bathroom was well equipped with glasstop counter, raised bowl and tub/shower combination with Grohe fixtures. Breakfast was not included in my room price but it was a reasonable E13 for a good selection of hot and cold dishes with fresh coffee. Wireless internet is complimentary. However, the location is both a benefit and a problem for the hotel. While it is convenient, it is noisy. Although the room windows seem to be well-insulated, it cannot prevent the loud Madrid traffic noise from disturbing your sleep. Madrid is a very noisy city so if you're a light sleeper, ask for one of the few interior rooms that are situated further from Grand Via or stay elsewhere (but ask about street noise). Also, the between-room insulation was not be adequate because I could hear muffled discussions from neighboring rooms. Even an interior room may not help a light sleeper at Arosa. What about the evening trade on Grand Via? Yes, there are female street walkers between the Grand Via and Callao stations. Generally, they don't bother you and I never felt unsafe. But I would not recommend this area if you have children. For others, the location, recently-updated rooms, and free wi-fi may be the right hotel combination for a visit to lively Madrid...

“Great location but noisy”

London, United Kingdom

The location of this hotel is very central and is easy walking distance to major sites and a Metro stop is one block away. However due to its central location, there is heavy pedestrian and car traffic all around, thus making it a bit annoying when arriving and departing. The staff is helpful. The morning breakfast buffet actually has food, rather than only bread and cheese. My single room was small, a little worn out, but clean overall. The walls in the rooms seem to be thin as I could hear a lot of noise from neighboring rooms (i.e. tvs, door slams, and loud voices). I don't know if they're supposed to be soundproofed or not, but if you get noisy neighbors, you'll hear them. Regardless, this place is inexpensive and centrally located so I'd stay here again and just deal with it.

“Great hotel at reasonable price”

Best Western Hotel Arosa

Dec 30, 2007

We stayed here in the middle of December, and upon check-in we asked for and were given a non-smoking room. It was neat and clean, and importantly in the winter, warm. The bathroom was modern and had very good water pressure and hot water. The only minor drawback was that there were only three English language tv channels. As for the hotel in general, it is in a central area within steps of shopping, restaurants, and the subway system, which was easy to use and a short ride from the airport (though 2 simple train line transfers are necessary for the trip).
