“If you are a foreigner and would like to try real Spanish food, this is a place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

This is a place to visit if you don't want to spend lots of money for typical Spanish food. Try ordering different appetizers to share, their cod fish is typical and good, if you are into "arroces" rice dishes with sea food, it is good as well. Finally a typical Spanish desert: Leche Frita. It is worth the calories

“Good food, very good wine, look a bit old-fashioned”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We had a very good meal, with attendant good wine; the turbot (one of my favor fishes) was impeccably prepared, and all around the table were happy with the dinner. The place looks perhaps a bit old by now, without the charm one would associate with an old restaurant, however... A place I'd happy to go back to, all things considered.

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

A bit expensive, but very good basque specialities, for a total of a good quality/price ratio.
Usually does not fail.

“Only worth a visit while on an expense account, preferably some else's”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Average Basque-style food with lackluster service. The manager is a little too pushy when suggesting appetizers to be shared and the bill is overly charged with fees for bread, which is excessive. The olive oil on the table, arbequina extra virgin, may be good the first 3-4 months of the year though is now tasteless. Desserts are fine though nothing special. The best part of the meal were the "tejas" that come with coffee. If you have a choice and it's not raining heavily outside, try something else. If you don't, it's not terrible but nowadays, with lots of competition and much more choice, there are better places not far away.

“Fantastic food with great ingredients”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

Gaztelupe has become one of my favorites in Madrid. Food is always delicious and very fresh! The steaks are wonderful and so is the fish. Try the ''chuleton'' and the hake. Starter tapas are varied and fantastic. Atmosphere is friendly and down to earth...don't expect any thrills, just some wonderful food and wine. Let yourself be guided by Isaac the maitre d'
