My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in early April. We were very impressed with the staff and service, and could not ask for more in that department, but the property is a bit out-dated overall. The desk staff all spoke English quite well. The last time we stayed at a Park Hyatt was in Tokyo, and this was quite a step down.
Our cab ride from Barajas Airport was about 28EUR during very heavy mid-day traffic. The exterior of the hotel is a bit austere, looks more like an office building from the 70s. It's very clearly marked, and the cab driver knew exactly where it was. I realized there were no full exterior shots on the Hyatt website, the looks explain that. Our room was spacious, and the king-sized bed was very comfortable. The decor is faux baroque for lack of a better term. A lot of wood paneling and brass. We had an entry way with a second door before our room, the room, and a dressing area leading to the bathroom. The bath itself was partitioned in two with what looked like waferboard, with the toilet on the right and tub on the left. The partition did not reach the floor or ceiling, rather odd. The bath was clean, but dingy, some mildew, dated fixtures. We could hear other people's phones ringing and showers running through the walls, but were never bothered by street noise even though we were on the front of the building.
Ladies, bring your own hairdryer if you stay there. The one provided might as well be a garment steamer. It was the lowest power dryer I have ever seen, totally a relic.
The location is convenient, about a 15 minute walk to the Prado. There is an exit through the lobby to El Corte Ingles, a department store behind the hotel. There is a lovely supermarket in there if you want to pick up any snacks. There's a good amount of high-end shopping in the Salamanca area around the hotel.
We ate at Tse Yang, the Chinese restaurant, and it was excellent and well-priced, very creative and unique take on Chinese food.
Overall, we'd probably stay elsewhere on a return trip to Madrid, but I do want to underscore how terrific the staff was. You could certainly do a lot worse, we just weren't impressed by the facilities. We left via RENFE, and it was about 8EUR for the cab ride to Atocha Station. There always seem to be plenty of cabs right in front of the hotel, which is a plus.
